The Justice Department is reviving an inquiry into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the governments controversial approval of the Uranium One deal, NBC News reported on Thursday.
A now-dormant FBI investigation into whether Clinton had ties to the deal has not found evidence of wrongdoing. But NBC, citing multiple law enforcement officials, reported that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has in recent weeks directed Justice Department prosecutors to ask FBI agents to explain evidence uncovered in the probe.

Following pressure from President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans, Sessions last month said he would consider appointing a new special counsel to look into Clinton and Uranium One, as well as other matters involving Democrats. Sessions pledged during his confirmation hearing last year that he would recuse himself from any possible investigations involving Clinton.
The Uranium One obsession among Trump and his allies has increased in recent months as Special Counsel Robert Muellers probe intensifies into the Trump campaigns ties to Russia. Four people have been charged, including former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Now the diversion effort begins in earnest.

(9,895 posts)This 'administration' is an utter disaster for the republic, exactly as bad as I feared last November.
The "what-aboutism" is their calling card from Fox News playbook and to anyone NOT drunk on the Kool Aid or completely brain dead, it is obvious....unfortunately we have far more brain dead citizens than I feared...

(1,121 posts)Mueller is toast. The Rethug cabal and their enablers in the media will not let him proceed much longer. Instead, they will embark on multiple "investigations" involving the Clintons, Democrats, and the "corrupt" FBI. I served 30 years in Federal law enforcement and the later is especially amusing considering that easily 95% of those in the FBI are staunch conservatives. In the future, I'm actually expecting them to demand an oath of fealty to Dotard and the RepubliCONS - they will rule with an iron fist and there will be no dissension.

(4,533 posts)Uranium One US production in 2016 was 23 tons. Russian domestic production in 2015 was 3055 tons. Russias weak neighbor Kazakhstan produces about as much, production Russia can muscle if they want to. The US production from Uranium One is vastly less important to our national security than our production of pumpkin spice. Literally.

(4,533 posts)Feds use eminent domain every day to get land needed for roads, military bases. If this uranium production is needed for our security Trump can grab it fast. Repubs say this thing is essential to protect us. Does Trump refuse to take it because he is a Russian Agent? Or because its trivial? It has to be one or the other.

(15,278 posts)so he can work his agenda to dismantle all the progress made in the last 65 years. I'm sure he could care less about "uranium one", but he knows Trump will be pleased with yet another investigation and that will allow him to stay on and continue his own dirty work.

(1,279 posts)Yes, she voted in favor of the deal, but it was not up to the committee to make a binding decision. Even if all members of the committee vote no to the sale, they could not stop the sale, only tell the President whether or not they were for the deal. Even then, the company would have to get approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission before they could export the uranium.

(33,643 posts)State department simply didn't dissent from allowing the deal to move forward. They were 1 of like 9 agencies/committees with some say, and no veto power.
THere's no evidence I've seen that she personally was part of that decision-making.
