Trump: Time for DOJ to act on Abedin, Comey?

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 01/02/18 08:03 AM EST

President Trump on Tuesday appeared to call for the Justice Department (DOJ) to "act" on former Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Abedin and former FBI director James Comey.

Trump appeared to be referring to a report in The Daily Caller News Foundation that said Abedin had forwarded State Department emails to her personal Yahoo account.

Those emails, according to that report, included passwords to government systems and were forwarded to her personal Yahoo account before a breach at Yahoo that affected every customer account.

Last month, the State Department released portions of 2,800 emails and other documents belonging to Abedin that were recovered by the FBI last year on Abedin's estranged husband Anthony Weiner's computer last year.

Nothing but a constant stream of anger, resentment, petulance, and vengeance.

Seems to have no sense of perspective, priorities. Some things are just not worth worrying about.

According to Daily Caller article, Abedin sent passwords for her government laptop to her Yahoo account on Aug. 24, 2009, an email released by the State Department in September 2017 shows. ( I don't know if passwords were sent, from I only see instructions for printing but password area is blank - it doesn't say redacted so questionable whether hacker could have used that information to access State Dept. Plus timing doesn't work).

Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State from 2009 to February 1, 2013. So Abedin was out of SOS office February 1, 2013. So her access to government materials was over on that date and any one hacking Yahoo email who could see credentials for State Dept account from August 24, 2009 email could not access State Dept b/c her access should have been shut off. But apparently items she forwarded to Yahoo account were still there in 2016 and so those might be an issue. But didn't FBI already determine Abedin's Yahoo accounts were duplicates of what already reviewed?

Yahoo Hacks
August 2013 Yahoo hack compromised three billion accounts across multiple Yahoo properties, and the culprit is still unclear. “All Yahoo user accounts were affected by the August 2013 theft,” the company said in a statement.

Then in 2014 hack by Igor Sushchin of 500 million Yahoo email accounts. His associates accessed accounts into 2015 and 2016 by using forged cookies.

2012 Yahoo hack was of Yahoo Voices, not Yahoo email - Yahoo confirmed on Thursday the hack of Yahoo Voices, part of its news service, saying "approximately 400,000" usernames and passwords were stolen. But in a written statement, the company said that less than 5% of the breached Yahoo accounts had valid passwords. http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/12/tech/web/yahoo-users-hacked/index.html

The timing does not work as noted by others - unless there was an earlier undetected yahoo hack closer to 2009 - and an evil person found that specific email and used it to access Huma's state department account through which they accessed lots of stuff. Seems like a pretty unlikely conspiracy theory by someone (Daily Caller and Donald Trump) working overtime to make the case that Huma (thus Hillary Clinton) endangered US security. Nothing new -- it was the point of the much of the LONG FBI investigation which did not find any such result - even though they did note carelessness - which could be said of Huma's action here too.)

Not to mention, even though it is not good that the government systems were hacked, State.gov was NOT supposed to have any confidential or secret information on it.

Compare that to some high ranking person in the Trump administration handing Russia extremely secret information - from a third country - in the oval office.

Secured for classified information either.whoever included those passwords in the e-mails that originated from the State Department would have been at fault.no classified info is suppose to be transmitted over State.gov.

It's wearying but people are wising up to his act's lack of substance.

Last I saw, Comey said they got there "Somehow" and Abadin denied sending them. I guessed that Russian/Republicans sent them to Weiner's laptop. A classic dirty trick adapted for the digital age. But if that is true, why not say so? Is Mueller sitting on it? Actually, Mueller sits on everything.

from outside the office unless you have a gov't provided laptop/computer, etc, that's hooked up to gov't servers. It's a pain to get this stuff set up in your home and/or having to carry and connect a gov't laptop around in addition to your own personal electronics just to read email. That's why you get gov't employees who do a lot of travelling using commercial email accounts to send/receive email.
