Trump: I have a 'much bigger' button than Kim Jong Un
Source: The Hill
President Trump on Tuesday said that the nuclear launch button on his desk is "much bigger" and "more powerful" than that of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and that his button actually "works."
"North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the 'Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times,'" Trump tweeted. "Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"
Trump's comments came after Kim said in a New Year's Day speech that he had a nuclear launch button at his desk, and that the international community would have to accept North Korea's status as a nuclear-armed nation as a "reality."
In that address, Kim also said he was willing to send a delegation to the Winter Olympics in South Korea in February and engage in talks with Seoul about easing military tensions between the two countries.

(43 posts)I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the office of the North Korean president. Does that guy realize just how erratic and nuts president Trump is? Is anyone telling him just how dangerous this situation is? President Trump isn't sane and if Kim Jong-Un isn't careful here's going to lose his country. Unfortunately millions of innocent North and South Koreans will die in the war.

(31,110 posts)Kim Jung-Un may be crazy, but he's not stupid. I wish we could say the same about Dotard.

(43 posts)I'm kind of afraid Kim Jung-Un is clueless of how dangerous any republican president is. It's never a good idea for a dictator to antagonize America when we have a republican president. Republican presidents seem to look for excuses to start wars. A war was started with Iraq over alleged WMDs. North Korea doesn't have alleged WMDs. It has real ones that Kim likes to shoot over Japan and then brag about.
President Trump doesn't have the diplomatic skill to calm the situation down. I think he wants a war with N.K.
Hopefully the military is talking him out of it.

(17,382 posts)If he backs down, he may be seen as weak and ineffective by those surrounding him who might try to topple him. For him, standing up to the U.S. is a personal matter of life and death. There is no heroism. If Kim feels that he might go down, he is going to take his entire country with him, since he might actually survive a nuclear war in some 100 foot deep bunker. Conversely, if he backs down, he fears that he could end up being dragged through the streets and sodomized like Quaddafi.
So, Kim could very well be behaving in a rational manner by "standing up" to Trump.

(17,382 posts)While Kim needs to match Trump insult for insult, Trump could very well be increasing the chance that he does not finish his Presidency if his statements cause more members of the public to question his basic competence. Trump has the benefit of a self-insulated right wing media bubble that spins even Trump's most outrageous statements, but he may get to the point where even Republicans like Romney might find that they get more bang for the buck by running against Trump, rather than with him.

(32,579 posts)... and quietly make a "truce" with them and then tell Trump to stay the f**k out of their affairs. Seriously what does South Korea stand to gain by remaining loyal to the USA? All we're doing is forcing them to face the nutcase on their northern border, and we're taunting him and making it way worse.
Nobody wants a nuclear war, certainly not North Korea. They already know they'll get wiped out and so will South Korea.
It's Trump that's making this all possible, and he should just STFU.
