The CDC wants to gently prepare people for (an unlikely) nuclear war

Source: CNN

It is absolutely impossible to mention nuclear war without freaking people out, but the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is trying to gently prepare for the possibility.

The CDC is holding a session January 16 to discuss personal safety measures and the training of response teams "on a federal, state, and local level to prepare for nuclear detonation."

The meeting, part of the agency's monthly Public Health Grand Rounds, will include presentations like "Preparing for the Unthinkable" and "Roadmap to Radiation Preparedness," and it will be held at the CDC's headquarters in Atlanta. "Grand rounds" are a type of meeting or symposium in which members of a public health community come together to discuss topics of interest or public importance.

This isn't the first time in recent months that official entities have informed the public about the consequences of a possible nuclear strike.
In August, amid escalating nuclear rhetoric from North Korea, Guam's Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense released a two-page fact sheet about what to do in the case of a nuclear event.

Gently preparing for nuclear war isn't controlling it or preventing it. Giving people good, solid, vivdly presented information about the known realities of nuclear war might. Of course, that would also make it crystal clear that anyone who would for a moment consider the use of nuclear weapons is a mad dog that needs to be put down.

As a child of the cold war I remember the CD triangles in every public building.

Where the hell are they now? The orange asshole knows California doesn't have basements, so he's looking for us to get hit first.

No shelters, no nukes!

10. Maui Re-Starts Monthly Air Raid Sirens Tests
Fri Jan 5, 2018, 02:50 PM

On the first day of every month here on Maui the tsunami sirens are tested precisely at 11:45am. Well, in December, they added a second test, the nuclear siren test, which is a warbley siren instead of the constant siren of the tsunami warnings. In fact, we were at Costco this past Tuesday when the sirens were tested, and we had to talk the tourists loading their car next to us off the ledge when the sirens went off.

This is one of the things we need to prepare to deal with now, not after the fact.

It is not overstating the fact that for years (decades?) there have been groups that hate the US, and want to do it great harm. Nuclear weapons are becoming easier to research or obtain from elsewhere.

Eventually, someone will succeed in getting or developing one. They will not need a missile to deliver it. They can just put it in a shipping container and set it off in a major port. Even a crude low yield "dirty" bomb will render the place unusable and would be a major blow to our economy.

This doesn't even begin to consider the panic that this event would cause. You think that there was a lot of hysteria and useless regulations after 9/11? Just wait...

Note the family picnic at 7:40 in. They use newspaper to protect themselves. Let’s all make sure we have enough newspaper to protect us from nuclear war. From the video, several sheets per person should work.
I don’t know what happened to the monkey who started it all. He just disappeared. Maybe he went to Mar-a-Lago.
