Democratic leaders face internal mutiny over Dreamers deal

Source: Politico

Democratic leaders are facing a potential revolt within their ranks as they edge toward a deal with Republicans that would protect Dreamers from deportation but also include concessions to conservatives that many Democratic lawmakers say are unacceptable.

Senate negotiators say they’re inching toward a bipartisan deal that broadly mirrors the parameters laid out during a meeting this week between lawmakers and President Donald Trump at the White House. They include ensuring legal status for Dreamers, strengthening border security and making changes to both family-based migration and the diversity lottery.

But many Democrats, particularly in the House, are horrified that their leaders would even agree to discuss issues beyond legal status for Dreamers and limited measures to curb illegal immigration. The concerns span multiple factions of the Democratic conference, and, combined with opposition from Republican immigration hard-liners, they could put passage of a DACA deal at risk.

During a tense meeting Tuesday night, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and other top Democrats were dressed down by rank-and-file Democrats over the talks.

1. Is there really "mutiny" in our party is is Politico simply being overly dramatic?

I just don't see "mutiny" at the moment, IMO we're pretty well focused on containing 45*s damage and winning back Senate and House seats in the mid-terms.

2. The article conveniently omits any discussion of the Republicans' position.

Do they have 218 votes? If so, I fail to understand how anyone could be upset with Pelosi. And considering that Meadows is quoted, I'm guessing that Republicans are fairly close to that threshold, meaning that our side has pretty much no leverage.

including MSNBC and CNN. I want to see exactly what Pelosi and Schumer are saying, and exactly what this so-called "deal is.

The media is notorious for mis-characterizing things.

Last night someone here reported that CNN said that Feinstein "apologized" for releasing the transcript of the dossier, and that is NOT at all what Feinstein said. What she said was that she regrets not informing Grassley that she was releasing the transcript, NOT that she had released it.

for any wall they can expect many including myself to vote for others that didn't support that. The majority want no wall, especially when trump will use it to personally benefit from it someway. No wall, no vote

the gop just said fuck you to the dems and 70% of the country by giving a trillion dollar blow job to rich people. they didnt need the dems, didnt want the dems, fuck you.

now the gop needs a few dem votes or all hell breaks loose apparently. i say fuck it let it break. its already broken

the gop wouldnt even be TALKING to the dems if they could do another party line vote and get 100% of what they wanted.

now they are offering the dems some crumbs if the dems agree to give them everything else they want? otherwise hundreds of thousands of people start getting deported? and the dems are afraid of getting blamed?

i say fuck it all either pass a clean daca bill, legalize these people or start shutting shit down. let the gop get the blame everytime a news story about a daca person getting forced from their home. let that go on for the next 6 months. see who ends up with congress.

dont fucking work with these assholes! let them own the next year. only give in when you get 1000% of what you want from these pricks.

but maybe thats just the irish in me talking and i have no idea wtf im talking about.
