Boris Johnson attacks Labour in row over cancelled Trump visit

Source: The Guardian

Downing Street has accused Labour of risking relations with the US by saying Donald Trump is not welcome in Britain, after the president cancelled a visit planned for next month amid the threat of mass protests.

In a move that ties No 10 ever more closely to Trump, a Downing Street source supported a comment by Boris Johnson in which the foreign secretary condemned Jeremy Corbyn and the London mayor, Sadiq Khan, for opposing a presidential visit.

“The US is the biggest single investor in the UK – yet Khan & Corbyn seem determined to put this crucial relationship at risk,” the foreign secretary tweeted on Friday. “We will not allow US-UK relations to be endangered by some puffed up pompous popinjay in City Hall.”

While the tweet initially seemed to take No 10 by surprise, Johnson’s comments were later endorsed. The Downing Street source said: “Boris expresses himself in his own inimitable way – but we agree that any risk to the crucial US-UK relationship is not in our country’s best interests.”

He need only look in the mirror.

He's also wildly incompetent. If anyone else performed as badly in their job as Boris Johnson does in his they would be fired.

Jeremy has been fighting bigotry, oppression, greed, and the arrogance of those in power his entire life.

It's why he's a hero to the young and young-at-soul throughout the UK and in large parts of the rest of the world.

Jeremy's for peace, justice, human equality and a better world...and he knows a fascists must be stood up to.

President Fart does seem to have it in for Sadiq Khan for the heinous crime of being Muslim.

Thing is, he's a much better mayor then Boris Johnson ever was.

I'll grant that Sadig is a much better mayor than Boris-who wouldn't be, other than maybe Jimmy Goldsmith or the right-wing prat who turned his back on Khan at the declaration?

I respect the role Sadiq has played in this.

In the coverage over here in the states, they were giving much more emphasis on Corbyn's role.

They both played a role, and it would be a tragedy if this somehow got used in the pointless rivalry some have tried to create between them.

I guess it depends on one's sources. I have not seen what you're describing.

I respect the role Sadiq has played in this.
If that's true, then why try to de-emphasize his contribution. Or, why try to elevate someone else to his level. What good purpose does it serve to intentionally understate someone's contribution just to avoid acknowledging their achievements.

I'm just saying... the "participation trophy for everyone" philosophy may work in the preschool classroom, but it doesn't transfer well into real-life politics.

They both played a role, and it would be a tragedy if this somehow got used in the pointless rivalry some have tried to create between them.
No, the tragedy is when someone tries to create artificial and undeserved parity in order to avoid stoking some sort of "rivalry" ... but in the process, ends up doing the exact opposite.

Welcome to trump’s new British lapdogs.

British people should hold them to task for subjugating themselves to trump.

To sacrifice your moral compass for money will make you neither moral nor wealthy.
