Homeland Security secretary says she doesn't recall Trump's 'shithole' comment

Source: Politico

By CONNOR O’BRIEN 01/14/2018 09:58 AM EST

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Sunday she doesn’t recall President Donald Trump’s reported comments about immigration from “shithole” countries during a White House meeting last week.

“I don’t recall him saying that exact phrase,” Nielsen, who attended Thursday's meeting at the White House, said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

Nielsen also predicted that Trump, who campaigned on hard-line immigration policies, including building a border wall, will “continue to use strong language when it comes to this issue, because he feels very passionate about it.”

Media reports state Trump questioned why the United States admits people from “shithole countries” in the meeting with lawmakers from both parties. Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) corroborated the remarks, while Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.), both allies of Trump, said Friday they didn’t recall those remarks. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) suggested he scolded the president at the meeting for his remarks, though he was not specific.

Maybe Mueller can ask Trump if he said shithole, just to get him on the record as a liar or truth teller.

There is nothing else to say about these people. They are disgraceful. They shame themselves, their party, and most of all the United States and our democracy.

If they lived 75 years ago in Germany, they would all defend Hitler. I am convinced of it.

The first response, on the evening of Jan. 11:

President Donald Trump prompted an outcry on Thursday after a bombshell report surfaced that he had referred to Haiti and African nations as "shithole countries" during a meeting on immigration with lawmakers.

But some White House staffers are unfazed by the remark because they believe it will resonate with Trump's supporters, CNN's Kaitlan Collins reported.

Instead, they predicted that Trump's base will be receptive to the comments in the same way they were when the president repeatedly attacked NFL players who knelt for the national anthem, according to CNN.

1. They are splitting hairs like guilty people and liars often do. Or,

2. They are so accustomed to that type of comment and language that they didn't even notice it.

In either case, they need to be retired from their current jobs ASAP.

to merely 'strong language' or 'salty words'? Republicans a trying to pretend that the entire world is outraged because Trump used a swear word. Discounting all the Pavlov's Dogs over at Fox, no one is buying it, of course, but that's the bestest explanation Trump's daycare minders could come up with.
