Durbin spokesman: GOP senators have 'credibility problem'

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 01/14/18 01:12 PM EST

A spokesman for Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on Sunday attacked Republican lawmakers for denying they heard President Trump call Haiti and African nations “shithole countries” during a White House meeting.

In a meeting with lawmakers last week, Trump reportedly questioned why the U.S. kept accepting immigrants from "shithole countries" like Haiti and African nations, instead of accepting more immigrants from places like Norway. Durbin, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) were in attendance.

Durbin told reporters Trump made the remark, and stood by his claim even after the president denied it. Graham didn't directly confirm or deny the comment, but reportedly told Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) reports of Trump's remarks were "basically accurate."

Cotton and Perdue initially issued a statement saying they did not recall Trump saying "shithole countries." On Sunday morning talk shows, both senators further clarified their statements.

When the WH did not deny it, GOP Senators that were there did “not recall”, when Trump later denies it, suddenly their memory is refreshed. Almost word for word total recall amazing restored, some with now coordinated talking points. Unfortunately the brain does not work that way. They know damn well what he said. Amazing loyalty to Trump they have, too bad they have no loyalty to the truth, our country, nor the constitution.

And aside from the “shithole” comment, are they denying Trump said he would prefer people from Norway over the entire continent of Africa as immigrants? What do they suddenly recall about that?

I'm afraid it'll be "Dirty Dick Durbin". We know not to put such crudeness beyond him. For an august body that refer to their deepest political enemies as "gentleman or gentlewoman", Trump is the crude schoolyard bully that crashed the party. Literally.

They should have steam coming out of their ears about this, and they shouldn't let up. I'm disgusted.

It's the technique of dictatorship.
