Two California parents were arrested after authorities found a dozen children and adults shackled to beds with chains and padlocks in their home, officials said Monday.

The 13 victims held captive in the home in Perris, California range in age from 2 to 29, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities started investigating after a 17-year-old girl managed to escape from the residence on Sunday and called 911. The girl claimed her 12 brothers and sisters were being held captive inside the home by her parents, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

Sheriff deputies responded and identified the 13 victims.

and they have photos from their 2016 wedding with all the kids dressed up.
Many of their FB friends have twisted Christian views; so I wonder if this is some kind of sick religious thing these assholes were doing.

“California records show that Mr. Turpin had received state approval to run a private school, the Sandcastle Day School, at his home in Perris. The school enrolled six students this year, in grades sixth through 12th, and Mr. Turpin was listed as the principal.”

Perhaps the state needs to take a closer look at all those private religious “schools.”

that betsy devoid wants to turn more and more taxpayer money over to these kinds of scammers to run private fake xtian schools.

Aside from the horrific aspects of this particular case, I heard a report on Ring of Fire a few weeks ago about what a lot of these schools are like--they use low-paid, unaccredited "teachers" to basically stand there while the kids sit isolated in cubicles and read preprinted instruction manuals, which of course include all kinds of goodies like no evolution, negativity about gays, etc. etc. etc. No discussion, no critical thinking or analytical skills needed or developed--the "students" just passively imbibe the fake xtian material.

The girl who escaped is 17, the police thought she was 8. And the "girls" are actually adults in their 20s.

Yes, they are starving and emaciated and one has to wonder how their brain development suffered.

How cruel can people be.

And, of course, are there neighbors? Other family members?

I cannot imagine treating family like this. What gives these parents the idea that this is the way to raise children? I guess this shows that parents can treat children anyway they want. As long as they are not caught.

PERRIS, Calif. (Reuters) - The 13 siblings found starving in a filthy California home, some of them shackled to furniture, were getting food and treatment after being rescued from a “horrific” ordeal that could leave them scarred for years, authorities said on Tuesday.

Police were investigating the circumstances under which the parents - David Allen Turpin, 57, and Louise Anna Turpin, 49 - had subjected their children to abuse behind the doors of their darkened, foul-smelling home, Captain Greg Fellows of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

. . .

The parents home-schooled the children strictly and required them to memorize long passages from the Bible, David Turpin’s parents, James and Betty Turpin of West Virginia, told ABC News.

 . . .

David and Louise Turpin appeared to have had marriage-renewal ceremonies at least three times, in 2011, 2013 and 2015, at an Elvis Presley-themed chapel in Las Vegas, according to the chapel’s YouTube page. One video shows the couple exchanging renewal vows in front of an Elvis impersonator.
