Sotomayor Doing Fine After Treatment by Paramedics, Court Says
Source: Bloomberg
Paramedics treated U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor for low blood sugar at her Washington home Friday, but the 63-year-old justice, who has type 1 diabetes, was able to go to work and is doing fine, a court spokeswoman said.
"Justice Sotomayor experienced symptoms of low blood sugar at her home this morning," Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said. "She was treated by D.C. Emergency Medical Services and is doing fine. She came to work, followed her usual schedule, and will be participating in planned activities over the weekend."

Claimed this was another proof that god has chosen Trump to lead America back to biblical principle, ie overturning Roe and Oberfell.

(9,067 posts)and she has 5 college degrees and is in her 40th year of teaching. So far, she has no major problems.
We were very excited to see Sotomayor appointed to the SC. We have been through the same calls to paramedics a number of times.
Other than a complete cure, modern meters and controls are usually good for a normal life - and my wife's key was the fact that as a teacher she had medical insurance while teaching in 3 states. Her brother and father did NOT have employer insurance or were uninsurable, and both died young (38, 49).
Universal insurance and medical care adds immeasurable value to this world. If you haven't lived it, you may not realize the difference it makes.

(2,559 posts)And the cost of insulin for a diabetic can easily outstrip the Part D coverage of Medicare, as well, landing seniors in the donut hole and many thousands poorer while on fixed incomes.
I know... I was diagnosed as T2 back around 2001. Been living with it since then. I'm on insulin and I keep glucose tablets with me at all times. It is not unusual to misjudge things and wind up dipping too low. I can tell when that happens, still, although I understand that as time goes on diabetics tend to lose the ability to determine, just from feeling, whether their BS is too high or dangerously low.
Sotomayor is T1 diabetic. From my reading over the past two decades, it appears that T1 diabetics tend to live longer than T2 ones. Perhaps having something to do with the insulin resistance that accompanies T2 diabetes but not usually T1 type. So, hopefully, Trump will be disappointed that Justice Sotomayor will not have to resign due to her condition, and he won't get to appoint a replacement.
And, in any case, it points up the dire need for us Democrats to take back the Senate this fall, so we can reject Trump's next SCOTUS appointee.
