(2,190 posts)It's just another consequence of the GOP being unable to govern. Trump is willing to taunt North Korea into a war, but he has no consideration for the military who will actually fight his war.

(10,864 posts)or maybe since its late Saturday night, people are making such heartless comments. Maybe we should cancel USO shows as well and cut military pay.
It really sucks being away from home basically for years in austere circumstances (at least it was when I served), and we are grateful for any kind of treat or break from the routine.
Some of us, including myself, were forced into military service.

(33,987 posts)serve in the military during two wars (ww2 & korean) i guess i'm viewing it this way:
i believe a firm stand on daca (and not fucking over the dreamers) is worth someone not being able to watch a football game.

(10,864 posts)or the Democrats. It's just shitty that the Trump administration cut services to our service members -- I think they could have avoided that, at least in the short-term with some planning and care. In the last shutdown, the AFN (Armed Forces Network) was kept going, according to the article in the OP.

(33,987 posts)"made an effort shortly after midnight to get the troops' salaries and death benefits paid through the shutdown. I want to make sure that tonight we send a very clear signal that we don't want one moment to pass with there being any uncertainty of any soldier anywhere in the world "

and mcconnell objected to a vote on this.
BUT i think daca is more important than a couple games of football. besides,
"WASHINGTON About 900 undocumented immigrants known as "DREAMers" are currently serving in the United States military, the Pentagon says which could prove a major challenge for the Trump administration as it tries to wind down the Obama-era program that protected those immigrants from deportation.
Those service members all of whom have health care or language skills the U.S. military considers vital would be forced to leave the military under Trump policy that would rescind their protected status beginning next March.
The enlistees are a small proportion of the 800,000 immigrants who have received quasi-legal status under the program known as DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
But they are also among the most symbolically important faces of the program, now that President Trump has called on Congress to resolve the fate of immigrants whose parents brought them to the country illegally as children. "

what do you think the priority of those 900 military "dreamers" are? watching football or staying in this country and in their military jobs?

(10,864 posts)I believe the Trump administration could have, with planning and care, kept the Armed Forces Network running, like was done in the previous shutdown.

(33,987 posts)but the "Trump administration" (as you so politely put it) has no care.
and neither do those republican assholes in the house & senate
Politely, LOL. Yeah, I don't know what happened there. I remember editing it from "they" to "Trump administration" to make it more clear, and I was too much into a "clarity mindset" that I didn't think past that. I usually refer to Trump as Caligula instead of Trump.
