Trump's budget chief says shutdown could last more than a week

Source: The Hill

BY ALICIA COHN - 01/21/18 09:24 AM EST

Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney on Fox News Sunday predicted the government shutdown could last more than a week.

“I think Democrats want to see the president give the State of the Union under a shutdown,” he said on "Fox News Sunday."

Mulvaney said Democrats want to hurt President Trump by keeping the government closed.

However, he also said negotiations are continuing on ending the shutdown and “there’s a chance it gets solved before Monday.”

Mulvaney on Republican opposition to funding bill: ‘What does it matter?’

White House Office of Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney on Sunday argued that it makes no difference that some GOP senators oppose a bill to fund the government because it needs Democratic support.

“Until you have at least nine Democrats, we cannot open the government. Short of nine, what difference does it make? Without Democrats, the government is not opening,” Mulvaney said, pressed on "Fox News Sunday" about the lack of GOP unity backing a recent funding bill.

Four Republican senators voted against the GOP bill to fund the government. It failed to pass the Senate on Friday night, leading to a partial government shutdown.

Five Democrats voted for the bill, but Mulvaney argued that Democrats are responsible for the shutdown because they haven't shown more bipartisan support.

Mulvaney: Trump wants a fix to DACA

BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 01/21/18 09:18 AM EST

White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney said Sunday that President Trump wants to find a fix for recipients Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“The president is absolutely interested and wants to get DACA fixed,” Mulvaney told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The Obama-era program, which shields immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children from deportation, has been at the center of negotiations over a short-term spending bill between lawmakers, as Democrats push for protections for the so-called "dreamers." President Trump said last year that he would rescind the program, but provided Congress with a window of time to craft a legislative fix.

Mulvaney said on Sunday that Trump has been “actively engaged” in trying to “avert the shutdown," adding that Republicans will need Democratic support to re-open the government.

2. Mulvaney: Government Shutdown is 'Kind of Cool'

The man in charge of shutting down the government said he only found out the task was part of his job description a day before doing the deed, and thought the duty—which furloughs hundreds of thousands of workers and costs the economy billions—is “kind of cool.”

In an interview with conservative commentator Sean Hannity on Friday before the shutdown went into effect, Office of Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney chatted about newly claimed importance.

"Obviously, I'm heavily involved in this, Sean, is that the Office of Management and Budget is charged with, you know, sort of implementing running a shutdown," he said, as first reported by Media Matters for America. “I found out for the first time last night that the person who technically shuts down the government down is me, which is kind of cool.”

they think it shows the country that the Federal government is unnecessary because the country doesn't burst into flame the moment there is a shutdown. They also love the idea of frustrating Federal workers and pissing them off about government service.

mulvaney is a radical far-right crackpot koch stooge with no credentials or expertise that justify placing him in the positions he's in. That he's there speaks to the tragedy of the dump maladministration and portends continuing evil actions on his part.

It would give him a huge audience to give his opinions with a cheering crowd and not much chance for rebuttal.
