Two students were killed and 12 other people were wounded during a shooting at a Kentucky high school, the states governor said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
Gov. Matt Bevin said the suspected shooter, a 15-year-old boy, was apprehended at the scene and will face murder and attempted murder charges. The victims include a 15-year-old girl, pronounced dead at the high school, and a 15-year-old boy, who died at a hospital. Bevin said 12 other people were shot.
In his tweet, Bevin called the shooting at Marshall County High School tragic and said a suspect was in custody. Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS . . . Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded . . . Much yet unknown . . . Please do not speculate or spread hearsay, he tweeted. Lets let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us
In another statement posted to Twitter, Bevin again called for support, not speculation about what happened.

(28,252 posts).....for their presence at the next, oh, say, twenty school shootings that take place in the U.S.A., without jack shit being done about it?
Nothing to do but keep your head low, and pray that none of your loved-ones are victims.

(10,115 posts)not so sure a national policy won't be suggested sometime in the short future for schools because our leaders simply have no guts to do anything else that may matter. And with millions of guns already in out country, what could they do? a new holiday called National Melt Down Day might help.

One dead, five injured.
was one of several towns that had a school shooting right around the time of Columbine.

(198 posts)Right. I'll praise the first responders on one hand while I cut the budget for those same first responders in my annual budget. Lying no good sorry ass fucker. Btw guns had nothing to do with the incident. Please look the other way.

Why do they have to muck up those headlines like that? The way they have it, it sounds as if the governor was the one who was shot at the school.

Hypocrisy! McConnell and Bevin and their wrecking crews continue to defund and deregulate the very foundations of government that can prevent this type of crime.

(969 posts)Why are we having all these incidents of student shootings?
It's too easy an answer that "It's the guns". Why do these kids feel the need to grab a gun?
What is the cause?
Bullying?
Love triangle?
Grade performance pressure?
'Suicide by cop' attempt?
Frustration that aggravates underlying issues in a system that has been under funded for more than a generation?
We're seeing the symptom, what is the disease?
There are too many "easy answers". Easy answers are almost invariably wrong.
We have to look behind the headlines, the momentary tragedy, to find out what is really wrong.
It won't be easy, and it may be frightening, but it has to be done.
