Two students were killed and 12 other people were wounded during a shooting at a Kentucky high school, the state’s governor said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Gov. Matt Bevin said the suspected shooter, a 15-year-old boy, was apprehended at the scene and will face murder and attempted murder charges. The victims include a 15-year-old girl, pronounced dead at the high school, and a 15-year-old boy, who died at a hospital. Bevin said 12 other people were shot.

In his tweet, Bevin called the shooting at Marshall County High School “tragic” and said a suspect was in custody. “Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS . . . Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded . . . Much yet unknown . . . Please do not speculate or spread hearsay,” he tweeted. “Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us…”

In another statement posted to Twitter, Bevin again called for support, not speculation about what happened.

Nothing to do but keep your head low, and pray that none of your loved-ones are victims.

not so sure a national policy won't be suggested sometime in the short future for schools because our leaders simply have no guts to do anything else that may matter. And with millions of guns already in out country, what could they do? a new holiday called National Melt Down Day might help.

Or just,

One dead after shooting at a high school in Kentucky

Why do they have to muck up those headlines like that? The way they have it, it sounds as if the governor was the one who was shot at the school.

Closely tracking reports of the tragedy in Benton, #Kentucky at Marshall County High School and my thoughts are with the students, teachers, faculty, and the entire community. Thank you to the first responders who continue to put themselves in harm's way to protect others.

Hypocrisy! McConnell and Bevin and their wrecking crews continue to defund and deregulate the very foundations of government that can prevent this type of crime.

Why are we having all these incidents of student shootings?

It's too easy an answer that "It's the guns". Why do these kids feel the need to grab a gun?

What is the cause?

Bullying?

Love triangle?

Grade performance pressure?

'Suicide by cop' attempt?

Frustration that aggravates underlying issues in a system that has been under funded for more than a generation?

We're seeing the symptom, what is the disease?

There are too many "easy answers". Easy answers are almost invariably wrong.

We have to look behind the headlines, the momentary tragedy, to find out what is really wrong.

It won't be easy, and it may be frightening, but it has to be done.
