Woman says Missouris strict abortion regulations violate her religion: the Satanic Temple
Source: Washington Post
A member of the Satanic Temple in Missouri has filed a lawsuit against the state that alleges that her religious rights are violated by the states abortion restrictions.
The anonymous plaintiff, who goes by the name Mary Doe in the lawsuit because she fears she would be subject to personal attack, brought her case before the state Supreme Court on Tuesday.
The woman, who has had an abortion, according to local news reports, alleges that the states requirement that Planned Parenthood the only abortion provider in the state distribute a booklet from the states Department of Health and Senior Services that stipulates that life begins at conception violates her beliefs as a member of the Satantic Temple.

(1,208 posts)U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves asked lawyers for the state in court Friday if its controversial religious freedom law would protect Mississippians with sincerely held religious beliefs against straight marriage, just as it protects those with sincerely held religious beliefs against gay marriage.
A beat of silence followed.
Paul Barnes, who is defending the attorney general and the registrar of vital records in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of House Bill 1523, cleared his throat. Judge Reeves looked at him.
Im trying to parse it out, Barnes said.
Almost a minute of silence followed. The other attorneys for the defense, Douglas Miracle and Tommy Goodwin, checked their notes. Someone coughed. Finally, Barnes leaned into his microphone.
No, your honor. Based on the text it does not, he said. But I have not fully analyzed that question.
