Oprah Shuts Down Presidential Rumors: 'Not Something That Interests Me'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Matt Shuham | January 25, 2018 9:32 am

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey put an end to rumors that she could run for president in an interview with InStyle published Thursday, saying “it’s not something that interests me.”

“How do you feel when people say, ‘Oprah 2020’?” InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown asked during an interview Winfrey did with the magazine. “I actually saw a mug the other day?…?I thought it was a cute mug,” she replied. “All you need is a mug and some campaign literature and a T-shirt.”

“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not. And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it.”

“[CBS This Morning anchor] Gayle [King] — who knows me as well as I know myself practically — has been calling me regularly and texting me things, like a woman in the airport saying, ‘When’s Oprah going to run?’” she continued. “So Gayle sends me these things, and then she’ll go, ‘I know, I know, I know! It wouldn’t be good for you—it would be good for everyone else.’ I met with someone the other day who said that they would help me with a campaign. That’s not for me.”

her likes and dislikes, skills and limitations

It's going to take a nuts and bolts politician to fix this mess

I'm sure Oprah is not that person, though in normal times she'd be a competent candidate

She has not gov't experience, is very temermental, and her reality is TV. sounds like someone else whe know and we can see how that's turning out. While I'd say she lacks the ability to be corrupt, that's about her only qualification.

Ask those she's promoted.

* Dr. Phil -- "I was the worst marriage counselor on the planet." What does he do on his Oprah supported program? That's right. Fucking marriage counseling.

* Dr. Oz -- whose medical quackery on his Oprah sponsored program became so bad that he had to testify before Congress about it. BTW, it didn't go well.

* Jenny McCarthy -- the anti-vaccination looney toon whose position has a real body count. Yup! Oprah supports anti-vaccination lunacy.

* John of God -- Yes! Fucking John of God. One should say nothing to support Oprah after her support for this looney toon.

I want her no where near political office, let alone supporting any candidate. She does not have a very good track record.

I only meant that she would probably not be stupid enough to become entangled with the russians, or owe them large sums of money. And money laundering is probably not her thing.

I despise Oprah for her demonstratable ignorance. She supports all sorts of ignorant quackery.

Witness. Conan and Oprah's bees.

There are several high profile Democrats out there right now that would be good candidates, let's see if any of them are interested.

If she ran, she would dominate the media attention which would drown out all the non-celebrity candidates, and we wouldn't have had a fair primary election.

First, it was about having children, there were probably scads of people giving her pressure in some form about that. She said, "No, Thanks. It's not something that interests me." & I respected her a lot after that (the same being my own POV as well).

Nice to hear. She's good at what she does now.
