House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) on Sunday said he has "100 percent" confidence in Robert Mueller to conduct a fair investigation if he is given the proper resources, and urged lawmakers criticizing the special counsel to "leave him the hell alone."
I think hes got a fair prosecutor in Bob Mueller, but I dont think hes got a fair jury, Gowdy said on Fox News Sunday, referring to President Trump. Mueller didnt raise his hand and say pick me, Gowdy added. We as a country asked him to do this.
Mueller is conducting an investigation into Russian election meddling and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
While Trump has repeatedly labeled the probe a hoax and witch hunt, several Republican lawmakers have in recent weeks argued the FBI, and Muellers investigation as a result, is infected with bias.

And, by definition, that jury is never unbiased, nor is it objective.
Witness the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, for purely political reasons.
Or the impeachment of Bill Clinton, again largely for political reasons albeit cloaked in a thin veneer of charges such as perjury. Sorry, me-too'ers, but having consensual sex with your intern doesn't constitute a high crime or misdemeanor.
Conspiring with an often hostile foreign nation to influence a US presidential election? One of the highest of crimes.

(43,132 posts)Must be something's up. They are masters at manipulating public opinion, they've got a sure-fire push back, or something they know, or Trump really IS about to fire Mueller. This Sunday morning vote of confidence in the investigation has the feel of public opinion ju-jitsu - relax the opposition and then slam the door when they are weakest.

(18,626 posts)Maybe Gowdy is learning that supporting the firing Mueller could be a passport to prison and wants to try and avoid that himself.
