The outlet has since replaced the image.

U.S. News & World Report is in hot water over its choice of imagery for a recent article on terrorism.

The news outlet used a Getty Images photo of a turban-wearing Indian soldier ― likely a Sikh ― to accompany the piece headlined “How Terrorism Is Taught Around The World.” And people were not happy.

Social media users and members of the Sikh community spoke out, labeling the outlet “irresponsible” and guilty of perpetuating a false stereotype.

The outlet did not issue a public apology. But following the backlash, the image was soon replaced with a photo of New York’s Twin Towers with smoke coming out of the buildings after the 9/11 attacks.

... the Taj Mahal Palace & Hotel during an armed siege, on November 28, 2008 in Mumbai, India". If they knew to use an image they'd need to pay for, they ought to have known to check the caption. There's no mention of India in the article, and wasn't in the original - see https://web.archive.org/web/20180123154110/https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2018-01-23/what-do-countries-teach-about-terrorism . They used no caption for the photo at all, apart from credited the photographer and Getty. So I think nearly everyone would assume that was meant to show "terrorism" (since it's nothing to do with "teaching" about it).

as they continue to perpetuate racism against brown people, especially turban wearing brown people.
