Trump weighs tariffs, quotas on U.S. steel, aluminum imports

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he was considering a range of options to address steel and aluminum imports that he said were unfairly hurting U.S. producers, including tariffs and quotas.

Trump’s comments came in a meeting with a bipartisan group of U.S. senators and representatives. Some of the lawmakers urged him to act decisively to save steel and aluminum producers in their states, but others urged caution because higher prices would hurt manufacturers.

Trump is weighing a list of options presented a month ago by the U.S. Commerce Department in a “Section 232” trade case looking at whether restrictions on steel and aluminum are needed to protect national security.

“What we’re talking about it tariffs and/or quotas,” Trump said to the group.

1. So, manufacturers who find it is more profitable to import raw materials will be forced to pay more.

That is going to be great for US manufacturing.

3. It's like this moron never heard of globalization

Trade wars benefit no one.

When you start hindering the relatively free flow of products, everyone is screwed, everywhere. Among other things, you introduce uncertainty into the market, and markets hate uncertainty. When you know that a particular item has a particular tariff, things run smoothly. When you start mucking about, you can't make sound business decisions. And it's not as if American companies can fill the gap quickly with the right item at the right specs at the right price at the right time. They might. They might not.

And you and I know full well that these moves are not intended to benefit American industry as a whole but specific companies and specific individuals.

So, more chaos. More uncertainty. In third world countries, analysts would say it sets the stage for unrest - political, social, economic - and possibly for change of governments.

And so. . . the nightmare continues.

I know of at least three that have been turned into tourist information sites along the bike and hiking trail along that front range, and there is only two or three mines still opened and still operating, if my memory serves me correctly? And they are laying off open pit miners.................that is a fact

Do you know that the area called the Boundary Water Canoe Area should be a National Monument.........I think so, it is a amazing place................

How about a tariff on Trump branded clothing and jewelry which competes with American companies because the Trumps would rather hire foreigners than hire Americans?
