Highline College in lockdown after reports of gunfire on campus

DES MOINES, Wash. - Highline College is in lockdown Friday morning after reports of gunfire on campus.
An alert on the college's Facebook page said "Lockdown - This is not a drill."
"We have reports of gunfire on campus. Please lock down all offices and classrooms until further notice."

(12,645 posts)When he taught there, it was a beautiful open 1960's type campus, with lots of landscaped walkways to small one and two story classroom buildings where the windowed rooms had access that was on the outside of the buildings.
Not a good place for protection from an active shooter.

There was a brief interview with a young man who said these things happen all over the world. He's wrong, of course. These things happen almost entirely in this country. But maybe that's the real reason we can't get good gun laws. Too many here think these kinds of shootings are normal and happen everywhere.

Real-time updates: Reports of gunfire at Highline College
10:08 a.m. PST: Per Highline College: Police are clearing each building, but people are to remain in the building until cleared to leave. For families wanting to come to campus, they should go the Lowes parking lot, which is on the southeast corner of 240th and Pacific Highway S., diagonally across from the Highline College campus. Lowes parking lot is the official reunification spot. There has still been no confirmation that gunshots were fired.
