Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) compared the Democrats to know-it-all cartoon character Lisa Simpson in a Thursday appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

"The Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer, Bart, Maggie and Marge," Cruz said, referring to the other Simpson family members on the long-running cartoon show "The Simpsons." Cruz, who often mentions the television show, made the joke after his interviewer, The Federalist publisher Ben Domenech, likened the gun control debate to an episode of "The Simpsons."

Domenech mentioned how, in one episode, Homer Simpsons cites Second Amendment protections for guns used for hunting or protection. In response, Lisa Simpson argues that the Second Amendment is a relic of earlier times.

Cruz went on to push back against those who want to enact further gun control in the wake of last week's mass shooting at a Florida high school. Instead, Cruz argued for stricter enforcement of current laws and a tougher line against violent criminals.

Simpsons" showrunner Al Jean joined in the pile-on against Cruz, writing on Twitter that the Texas Republican is "the one who could use a pacifier in his mouth."

Cruz is a big fan of Fox's long-running animated sitcom, even favoring BuzzFeed with some his best impressions of characters from Springfield during a 2015 interview.

21. Lisa Simpson is not a know-it-all.

Lisa loves learning. She is inquisitive and occasionally skeptical. That is not the same as being a know-it-all.

And if anyone watches the Simpsons, they will have noticed that Mr. Burns, Leslie Nagel, the rich guy with the cowbody hat and the guns are all depicted as sitting in on Republican meetings.

Reverend Lovejoy's gossipy, judgmental wife is the sort of spiritual advisor they would invite to pray with them.

Finally, I would rather be a "know-it-all" like Lisa Simspon, than a know-nothing like Trump. A man who insists that he went to the best schools, has the best words, is very smart and stable and won't read a security briefing unless it has cartoon characters with little word-balloons spelling out facts that don't contradict what he already believes.

please remember that Lisa is one of the smartest people in town, has a good heart, and loves jazz and learning.

Cruz is just still mad that when The Simpsons attempted to layoff some of the voice talent, they didn't hire him to replace Harry Shearer. It might have something to do with the fact that the job is called voice talent.
