Witness deflates Trump's claim that he stopped bat beating in 1991: 'He came at the tail end

Source: New York Daily News

Donald Trump's long-held claim that he stopped a brutal assault in midtown Manhattan more than a quarter-century ago is bogus, the events only known witness told the Daily News.

Trump had said he came to the aid of a man who was being attacked with a baseball bat in November 1991 a story recirculating online after the President claimed this week that he would have run into a Florida school during a recent shooting even if I didnt have a weapon.

He came at the tail end of the event, Kathleen Romeo-Nunez, 43, said Thursday of the sidewalk attack.

There was no opportunity for Trump to intervene, she said.

Trump – well known for planting coverage or creating sources to promote himself and his companies – initially feigned modesty.

So was Trump the "unidentified witness"? Priceless.

" the President claimed this week that he would have run into a Florida school during a recent shooting “even if I didn’t have a weapon.”

How easy it is to say that when you've got Secret Service folks at hand with every bone-spur-pained step.

"You guys cover me. I'm goin' in!"

I think it was Shecky Greene that was famous for telling it. It went something like...

"I was getting the crap beaten out of me by 4 guys outside the Fountainbleu Hotel. Suddenly, along comes Frank Sinatra. Frank says, 'Okay, boys - I think he's had about enough!'"
