In the past, players have had trouble passing out drug test, Jeffcoat wrote. We have made a decision to not take a chance on student-athletes from your state. You can thank your liberal politicians.
...
The university said Thursday that Jeffcoat had been fired over the email, according to Fox 4 News.
President Frederick Slabach said there are student athletes on other teams from Colorado and the school would not discriminate based on geographic location or political ideology.
"I want to make sure he knows that the comments contained in that email absolutely do not express the values of this university, and we would love to have Gavin here as a student," Slabach told Fox 4.

(19,843 posts)requires a drug test for being on the team, give him a drug test...that type of process happens across this country on a daily basis. I've had to take drug tests for the last several jobs I've had and I'm a "desk jockey".

(3,185 posts)Drug tests are not normal for most jobs here in Canada, at least in my experience. Since I moved up here, I've landed four jobs, and not a one of them has drug tested. Three of those I can understand, but I'm working for a financial institution now, with access to names, DOBs, SINs (the Canadian version of the SSN), the works. Wasn't drug tested for the initial position or when I was promoted to a spot with more access to data.
The only times I've been drug tested were when I went for police dispatcher jobs with Toronto and Hamilton Police Services, which absolutely makes sense. But as a matter of course, drug testing seems to be the exception rather than the rule up here. That's just my experience, of course.
On topic: if you're bringing in an athlete from a state where pot is legal, don't be shocked if they test positive for it. I mean, duh. If the kid tested positive for meth or heroin, I can see them not wanting to bring that onto their team. But pot? Gimme a break.

(10,269 posts)Legal in his state, or not. Part of the work I do is DOT drug testing. Trust me, you don't want someone to do something stupid with a 100-ton locomotive just because they smoked a joint before clocking in for work...that kind of thing is just too unforgiving. But if you wanna work at walmart in the suburbs, yeah its a waste of money to make that kid drop, and anymore I suspect it's about 'be white and therefore, clean', and you can be a 'productive' member of society.
That's just my take on my own work experience, and your mileage may vary.

(7,808 posts)I may say things like "shitgibbon" and "rethug" here on DU, but I would never use a person's home state or political leaning to attack a conservative or from a heavily Republican state - especially to their face or in writing like Jeffcoat did.
He deserved to be fired. But... was he fired for his illspirited political bias or for publicly embarrassing Texas Wesleyan University?

(36,827 posts)He only had a couple of productive seasons in his entire MLB career, and even then he wasnt that good. Judging from his mid-level job at Texas Wesleyan he wasnt much of a coach either. Now hell be lucky to get a job cleaning out spittoons in the dugout.

(12,541 posts)being an idiot. What State laws have to do with a student athlete is a loose association only a Repubic would try.
Since when does the population of a "purple" state exercise their vote, a vote that was citizen bipartisanship get turned around to being liberal and bad?
He needs to smoke a joint and relax.
Kudos for the school to fire such an unamerican prick
