Plainfield teen accused of shooting parents dead at Michigan university; father was cop, Iraqi war v

Source: Chicago Tribune

A college student from southwest suburban Chicago allegedly fatally shot his parents on the campus of Central Michigan University on Friday and remains at large and considered dangerous.

Authorities said Friday evening they have more than 100 officers from multiple agencies continued to search for 19-year-old James Eric Davis, of Plainfield.

The victims were identified by authorities as Davis parents James Eric Davis Sr. and Diva Jeneen Davis. The elder Davis was part-time police officer in west suburban Bellwood and a Illinois National Guard veteran who served in Operational Iraqi Freedom. Diva Davis Facebook page identified her as a real estate broker; friends said she was also a cancer survivor.

The Davises were reportedly picking up their son from his college campus for spring break when the shooting happened.

A man accused of killing his parents Friday at a residence hall at Central Michigan University has been arrested, campus officials said.

James Eric Davis Jr., 19, was identified as a suspect in what authorities said was a family-related domestic dispute. It was the nation's 12th school shooting this year.

He was taken into custody by campus police, officials said. No other details about his arrest were immediately available.

The university, in Mount Pleasant, identified the victims as James Eric Davis Sr., 48, and Diva Jeenen Davis, 47, the suspect's parents.

We have five times more guns than any other country. And the most per person. Therefore, gun violence is less common here than anywhere else on the planet. QED.

Don't go fact-checking that statement. Damn your facts! The NRA has theory, a theory tested on talk shows and in the halls of Congress. Why, that's almost like scientific proof.

...to murder both his parents? And I don't even want to hear how he was abused as a kid. He was emancipated (or could have been) and it doesn't justify this heinous act. He could have left and never spoken to either again.

No excuse.

"Klaus said Davis was taken to a hospital Thursday night by campus police because of a drug-related health problem, possibly an overdose. No other details were released."

Police said they had contact with the student late Thursday night and took him to a local hospital, where he was turned over to the medical staff for what police say they believe may have been some sort of drug-related issue.

Seems that there may be more to this than we know at this time. I wonder what the hospital has to say (I also wonder if it is related to psychiatric meds/condition).

13. What would you propose Congress do?

That would have prevented Davis from taking his father's gun and killing his parents in a gun free zone on campus?

his or her firearm get into the hands anyone not legally able to purchase firearms.

Until we get to a place where it is safe to own arms, no one gets to own them. My right to live my life trumps whatever assumed rights anyone else really has under the 2nd Amendment.

15. Do you think congress is going to pass a handgun ban anytime soon, even if the Dems take power?

Given his dad was a part time police officer, what legislation would they pass that would have not allowed him to have a handgun?

Go ahead and jail his dead father for letting it get into Davis Jr. hands; that will show him.

I don't see a feasible legislative solution for this specific situation other than a total repeal of the 2nd amendment and confiscating all guns including from even police

Did he buy it beforehand?

Did he take it from dad in heated argument?

There's no answer absolving U.S.A. gun culture.
