Trump at Gridiron dinner: Who will leave WH next, Miller or Melania?

Source: The Hill

President Trump attended the annual Gridiron Club dinner on Saturday where he cracked joke after joke in a speech, during which he reportedly pondered who would depart the White House next: "Steve Miller or Melania?"

"So many people have been leaving the White House. Its invigorating since you want turnover. I like chaos. It really is good. Whos going to be the next to leave? Steve Miller, or Melania?" Trump quipped, according to White House pool reports.

Trump later joked, saying Melania could also claim him as "an adult dependent," riffing off "Fire and Fury" author Michael Wolff who said White House aides told they view the president as child-like.

Trump's joke about White House turnover comes days after communications director Hope Hicks announced her departure.

Republicans (Bill Bennett was the only exception in the last 25 years) tend to have less of a sense of humor than your average garden slug.

the one who was shot, had a sense of humor. It is tragic when anyone is shot, but I was sorry it was him. He was one of the few people close to Reagan whom I liked.

I think one of his books was "The Book of Virtues." A practically militant Catholic who did indeed have a gambling problem. He would have been perfect for the Trump administration except for that he actually IS intelligent, and really does have a sense of humor. Both attributes are not considered ones to covet in the Trump White House.

No videos of the speeches at Gridiron--officially, anyway! Someone made a bootleg of Clinton's speech secretly the year my dad was president, of which I have a copy! It's practically a textbook lesson on "how to own a room." It was during his first term, and while he was giving the speech, Gingrich, who was sitting next to my mom, leaned over and whispered to her "anyone who thinks this guy will be a pushover when he runs for re-election is fooling himself."

My relative said "He can't even make a joke." (In a defensive way, like the poor guy is trying to make a joke, and mean people are taking him seriously on purpose). I thought, geez, what a stupid joke.

My grandfather and father are both like that. They attempt to make a job and wind up insulting somebody and then say it was a joke. In their case, I believe them. They just aren't good at jokes and are funny only when commenting off the cuff. Donald, OTH....

Unless a president is prepared to poke some fun at himself, he doesn't do Gridiron. Someone must have told Trump he needed to have at least ONE moment with the press that could be interpreted as something other than civil war.

At Gridiron, the president of the Gridiron Club and his/her family meets with the POTUS and the VP prior to the start of the event. I would have been horrified if I had been forced to meet Trump like that. Good thing for me that when my dad was president of Gridiron, Clinton was in office! I tried to impress Al Gore by saying I was probably the one who came the longest way for the event (Germany). He said, "I don't think so. I just got in a few hours ago from Saudi Arabia." oops

Maybe someone told Trump in advance the line every Gridiron president says to open the event: "Reporters are never present. Ladies are always present. And the gridiron singes, but it never burns."

I was just watching CNN's "The History of Comedy" series again and they showed past dinners and the one from 2011 when The Moron decided to run for president since he couldn't handle being laughed at. Looking back, he should have quit while he was ahead.

taking shots at Melania. Remember that charity dinner in NYC before the election, with Trump and Clinton present, where he made fun of her, but not himself? The man is incapable of doing 'fun.' Just what his followers find so amusing about him is completely beyond me. Unless watching a smug asshole harangue and belittle others is their idea of comedy gold.
