Ted Cruz, Beto O'Rourke showdown set after Texas primary election

AUSTIN Early voting tallies show U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Beto ORourke poised for easy victories in their respective primary elections on Tuesday, setting the stage for a contentious general election fight.
The primary results set the table for what some experts believe could be the most competitive U.S. Senate race Texas has seen in nearly a generation. The last competitive race was when U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, beat former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk in 2002.
While Cruz has the luxury of running as a Republican in one of the most Republican states in the nation, the lesser-known O'Rourke has embraced a go anywhere, speak to everyone strategy that has helped fuel a surge in fundraising with numbers that have bested Cruz in all but one reporting period.
