Republicans on House Intelligence Committee move to end Russia probe ahead of midterm losses: report

Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee are moving to end the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the committee “has finished interviewing witnesses in its yearlong probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to a person familiar with the matter, signaling the end is near of a contentious investigation that has revealed deep partisan divisions on the panel.” The committee reportedly interviewed its final witness, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, last week.

“Republicans on the committee and in the House of Representatives think it is now time to conclude the panel’s investigation, according to people familiar with the matter,” the report said. “Republicans and Democrats on the House committee have said they would like to produce a bipartisan report, but relations on the panel have deteriorated to the point where such a task may be difficult.”

The move comes before Democrats have a chance to seize control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections. Republicans would likely accuse Democrats of partisanship if the Russia investigation was reopened.

Regardless what Putin's puppet Nunes (if he survives) wants.

I love the fact that so little is being done to protect our elections this fall.....

The RepubliConMen are refusing to "follow the money". They are therefore willfully and openly not using the biggest lesson from Watergate and Iran-Contra. Obviously they wish to obstruct justice.

But it won't work.

The truth of the Trump-RepubliCon crimes is too large to cover up. Mueller knows everything the House Committee knows and much more because Mueller is following the money.

RepubliCons are going to have to abandon tRump sooner or later. The later it is the worse it will be for the RepubliConners and the RepubliConned. Their party is going to be a very damaged brand if Democrats keep reminding voters that the GOP and tRump are welded together at the hip and the lips.

Does anyone really think that a Devin Nunes-led committee is really going to do anything in this space that's going to harm the Trump WH? This action would just add one more justification for putting Democrats in charge - i.e., a Chairman Adam Schiff could re-open the investigation and actually have it do something.

And we won't, as we relegate you to the antiquated, impotent, vile political abomination you promote, attract and have become.

You have NO IDEA how swiftly we are going to swing this pendulum back... this time, it's going to hit hard, and move the goalposts.

We're not worried about being 'nice' anymore... you certainly haven't.

11. Like they were going to accuse Obama of partisanship if he announced the Russian incursion?

Why is it that only Democrats can be accused of partisanship? If the Republicans want to shut this down, Democrats, lead by Adam Schiff, need to pound it into the minds of the electorate that this was partisan misdirection and malfeasance from the get go; the 2018 House races need to emphasize this fact, over and over and over and over again.

I am so sick and tired of the game-playing, the deflection, the circle the wagons bullshit that Republicans foist upon our politics to the detriment of the American people. It's time we call them on it, LOUDLY and OFTEN.
