Maine candidate calls Florida teen activist a skinhead lesbian

A state House candidate from Sabattus leveled insults and criticism at two students who survived the shooting at a Florida high school last month.

Leslie Gibson, the only declared candidate for House District 57, took to Twitter to call one student a “skinhead lesbian” and to denounce another as a “bald faced liar.”

The comments have stirred up some people in Democratic ranks, but so far nobody has emerged to take on Gibson.

“I wish I knew someone who could get into this race,” said Pat Fogg, a Democratic organizer in Greene. “That sort of stupidity really turns people off.”

on conservative sites about them on day 2 after the shooting. "Unless you were injured, you werent a survivor."
The aunt of one of the kids that died said her niece wasn't a sacrifice on the alter of the second amendment. A comment on that thread said that she was, because we don't want to live in a socialist country.

So if you want to make up things conservatives say about victims of a shooting, think about the lowest thing you can. I guarantee they will go lower than you.

LEWISTON, Maine — A Republican Maine House candidate has used Twitter to attack two students who survived a shooting at a Florida high school, calling one of them a "skinhead lesbian" and the other a "bald-faced liar."

Leslie Gibson is the only declared candidate for the 57th District and told the Sun Journal it was "not appropriate to single out the Parkland students." But he says he stands firm in his defense of "our constitutional rights." He says he served in the military and took an oath "to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States."

A Democratic organizer in Greene says, "That sort of stupidity really turns people off." Organizer Pat Fogg says she wishes she knew someone who could jump into the race.

The newspaper says Gibson has since made his Twitter account private.

It's not the first the Parkland students have come under fire. An employee of the Florida House, Ben Kelly alleged in February that survivors David Hogg and Emma González were not students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, but paid crisis actors. Kelly was promptly fired.
