Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov found dead at his London home
Source: The Guardian
A Russian exile who was close friends with the late oligarch Boris Berezovsky has been found dead in his London home, according to friends.
Nikolai Glushkov was discovered by his family and friends late on Monday night, aged 68. The cause of death is not yet clear. One of his friends, the newspaper editor Damian Kudryavtsev, posted the news on his Facebook page.
Without confirming the mans name, the Metropolitan police said the counter-terrorism command unit was leading the investigation into the death as a precaution because of associations that the man is believed to have had.
It said there was no evidence at present to suggest a link to the incident in Salisbury, where Sergei and Yulia Skripal remain in a critical condition.

note the inclusion of the daughter... she might have been collateral or she might be a "never mind your sorry ass, if you care about your family you will not cooperate"

(48,994 posts)Incautious jumping to conclusions would undermine the strong case against Putin for the poisoning of the ex-spy.
Careful you don't undermine that important case.

(8,311 posts)... if you were the British government, you'd probably be careful not to potentially undermine an important case by jumping to conclusions before the autopsy results come back.
And if they are taking the possibility seriously, it's probably going to take awhile, as the autopsy would probably involve significant toxicology testing that isn't usually done... especially if there's no obvious cause of natural death on gross exam.

(8,755 posts)It could be Putin had them assassinated (or tried to at least) for different reasons.
Nobody is denying Russia is behind it, just saying not to jump to conclusions the two are related.

The unwashed masses can, but you're supposed to go into these things objectively if you're an investigator.

NBC News @Tom_Winter confirms that Nikolai Glushkov, close associate of Putin critic Boris Berezovsky--and someone who testified against Putin ally Roman Abramovich in a court case--has been found dead in his London home.

NBC News: Nikolai Glushkov, friend of Boris Berezovsky (one of Putin's toughest critics), has been found dead in London. Metropolitan Police are investigating. Glushkov told @lukeharding1968 in 2013, "too many deaths [of Russian emigres] have been happening.

(8,755 posts)its possible the Skirpal attack isn't related to cleaning up Berezovsky's group. But why buy 2 plane tickets when you can buy one?

(8,755 posts)This article is about a new dead Russian, who's associated with Boris Berezovsky, arch rival of Putin who abruptly died in 2013, in a locked room by way of strangulation. Officially that death is ruled a suicide. But things don't totally line up.
So there are two dead Russians, who have a history of being a throne in Putin's side, and now this father and his daughter in critical condition in London, that was 8 days ago from this mysterious death.
It is confusing, but then all this cloak and dagger stuff usually is.
