President Trump reportedly mocked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for his "mannerisms and Texas drawl."

Trump called Tillerson - who was ousted from his role Tuesday - "weak" and talked with friends and advisers about people he thought would be better suited for the job at the State Department, The Washington Post reported.

Trump was also critical of the bad press Tillerson received, according to the Post.

"This guy never gets a good story about him," Trump said, a source told the newspaper

he would hire "the best people." Tillerson came highly recommended by Condoleezza Rice and Robert Gates, and Bannon and Kushner also wanted him for the job. Nevertheless, Tillerson was not well-suited for the position, having never worked anywhere but Exxon; and by following the only model he knew, that of a large corporation, he tried to make the State Department more efficient but just ended up hollowing it out and rendering it almost powerless. So it's true that he was not a good SoS. But because Trump repeatedly undercut him in public, at least some of Tillerson's bad press and appearance of weakness was attributable to Trump, not anything Tillerson did or said.

What it comes down to is that if an employee fails you should look first at the boss, because it's often the case that either the boss didn't choose well in the first place or he failed to support or train the employee. Trump is actually even worse: he seems to love setting people up just so he can cut them down. It's his fault more than anyone else's that his administration sucks. He didn't hire the best people and he trashes the ones he did hire.
