Trump says he helped Republican in Pa. special election

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the final outcome of the Pennsylvania special election would have been much worse for Republicans if he had not campaigned in the district.
I dont know whats going to happen, but I know [Republican candidate Rick Saccone] came up a lot in the last few days, Trump told donors during a closed-door speech in Missouri, according to audio obtained by POLITICO. We went there. We made a speech. The place was packed and well see what happens.
Noting that Democrat Conor Lamb, the apparent victor, will only serve in Congress for the rest of this year and that the district map is being redrawn, Trump said it was a lot of work for a lawmakers who is only guaranteed to be in office for a short time.
Trump also suggested Lamb won by pandering to GOP voters. He said very nice things about me. I kept saying, Is he a Republican? He sounded like a Republican to me, the president aid. But I guess when youre popular in a certain area, thats probably a good tactic.

(32,577 posts)I'm pretty sure he forgot Rick Saccone's name, he had to read it off the paper.
What frosts me is how Trump got free national TV time and all he did was campaign for himself.

(43,044 posts)he shook the bushes to motivate a few die-hards, and he alienated just as many of his own supporters, 2.8% of which voted Democratic (just enough!). And he scared the BeJesus out of Democrats who in an off year election turned out 79% of their 2016 totals.
Something Donald J. Trump could never comprehend is that when an election is going against you, high profile is not often the way to go. If he had stayed away, and stopped carping about his candidate, and GOP's $11 million were not publicized ... it might well have gone the other way. It was close.

I am amazed at those on the Democratic line calling Conor Lamb a Republican and going off on President Obama.
Either they are lying bots or Democrats who swallow the Republican lie of the moment.

It was either significant or it wasn't. Since you don't allot ten million dollars to an insignificant race, the logical conclusion is that the Republicans thought this race was pretty goddam vital, if you ask me.

(4,459 posts)... want to fend off the blue wave, and thought the best way to do that was to take some steam out of it. Backfired spectacularly. Much hand wringing and temple massaging going on about now.
And Im happy as Hell with the result. But we need to be on guard. Their desperation will bring out the dirty tricks and go for broke tactics like weve never seen. I expect genuine chaos in November.
