LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) Leaders of a small California city have given preliminary approval to a measure to exempt the city from a state law that limits cooperation between local police and federal immigration agents.
Councilmembers in the Orange County city of Los Alamitos voted 4-1 Monday night in favor of an ordinance to opt out of California's law, citing constitutional concerns. A required second vote is expected on April 16.
The vote followed intense comments by residents who packed the tiny council chambers to speak for and against the effort to distance the city of 12,000 people from California's so-called sanctuary law, which bars police in many cases from turning arrestees over for deportation.
Mayor Troy Edgar said police in the community 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of downtown Los Angeles have not raised concerns about California's law. But he said he heard complaints from residents who said the state intruded into local governance with the law and felt his small city should take a stand.

Fucking hypocrites. None of this racists assholes have any qualms about hiring undocumented immigrants as gardeners and nannies, but God forbid we should give these immigrants any respect as human beings!

(12,646 posts)Are they going to pay all that OT that is required to support ICE in areas of dense population?
Or are they one of those de-facto "sundown" towns that imports all their minority labor and their police department is chartered to ensure that no one whose skin tone is darker than a paper bag is out in town unless they're working after sundown.
Not targeting or harassing them, mind you...just ensuring that the town is only for locals and legitimate visitors...
Ya, sure. "The State intruded on our local governance with the law..."
The State intrudes in local governance with all sorts of laws regarding the handling of criminal activity and civil rights. And this is the law they decide to take a stand on?

(21,111 posts)And they opt out whats going to happen when they lose their gardeners, nannies and house cleaners. Those poor wives will have to fend for themselves. And the men will have to mow their own lawns. I can see a blow back from the immigrant community there.
Unintended consequences have a way of catching up to those racist dummies.
