Trump furious over leak of warning to not congratulate Putin

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump was infuriated after it quickly leaked that he had been directly instructed by his national security advisers in briefing materials not to congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent election victory during their call Tuesday morning, a source familiar with the President's thinking said.
Trump was fuming Tuesday night, asking his allies and outside advisers who they thought had leaked the information, noting that only a small group of staffers have access to those materials and would have known what guidance was included for the Putin call, the source said.
According to the source, the incident resurfaces his long-held belief there are individuals inside his administration -- especially in the national security realm -- who are actively working to undermine him.
White House chief of staff John Kelly also is furious that a confidential presidential briefing became public knowledge, a White House official said, and intends to address the matter Wednesday as aides try to figure out who disclosed the warning.

I doubt kelley or mcgann leaked it. And most staffers don't have access to the info, nor would they be personally offended by it to the point they would leak it.
Mcmaster would. So would his senior advisers.
Sad. Very Sad. Is Putin tired of winning yet? It has to be exhausting.

(8,851 posts)Actually, I didn't think it was fake news as much as I thought it was a joke. I was watching Jimmy Kimmel and he said something about Trump being instructed not to congratulate Putin but going ahead and doing it anyway. I really thought that Kimmel was joking. How much of a tool (Putin's tool) does Trump have to be to not follow an instruction as simple and obvious as that.

(47,282 posts)Well, at certainly wasn't meant to be a compliment! His lack of self-awareness is so overwhelming, I'm surprised when he appears to actually know what is going on around him. Of course, it is possible that he would see people undermining him, even if they weren't.

(9,350 posts)I assume he is mad because that action give more support to the idea that he is Putin's puppet. Why would he congratulate Putin after his staffers told him not unless he is either under the control of Putin, or he really admires Putin. Either option is bad. As others have pointed out, despite what Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, this White House has condemned other leaders who have won based on supposedly rigged elections. There is a tweet from this administration condemning Nicholas Maduro for the way elections were conducted in Venezuela.

OK, so that's what he calls it. I've known guys that like to give their "man thing" pet names, but that's the first time I've heard someone naming it "Ego!"

(11,252 posts)Not that trump ignored national security advice, or spoke to the man dividing our country any way he can. Trump still thinks he is a good man. Business before country for all of our Republican Party from the top down.
My guess is the entire Republican Party is fine with all of this?
