Sessions issues memo on use of death penalty in drug-related cases

Source: The Hill

BY RACHEL ROUBEIN - 03/21/18 11:25 AM EDT

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday issued a memo to U.S. Attorneys about seeking the death penalty for some drug traffickers, which was part of President Trump’s plan to combat the opioid epidemic released earlier this week.

“I strongly encourage federal prosecutors to use these statutes, when appropriate, to aid in our continuing fight against drug trafficking and the destruction it causes in our nation,” Sessions wrote.

The memo points to statutes where the death penalty can be used, including certain racketeering activities, the use of a gun that resulted in a death during a drug trafficking crime, murder in advancing a criminal enterprise and dealing in “extremely large” quantities of drugs.

On Monday, Trump unveiled a three-pronged plan to fight the opioid epidemic: reducing the demand and over-prescription of opioids, cutting off the supply of illegal drugs and boosting access to treatment.

Pat pat pat... that's okay. The deceased was just an animal with a killer cell phone in his hand.

neighborhood

(4 documented cases where black men were killed for doing these things)

is deserving of the death penalty in the mind of some Americans.

I get a kick out of it (not really, I get angry), for instance this show now on NETFLIX where a black kid is killed on a bike by a cop driving, it is an accident, but what happens after isnt.

In court the defense attorney representing the white cop driver wins, basically, SPOILER ALERT

(by incorrectly, wrongly, convincing the jury that the kid was a banger, in a gang...and the point of course is that should make NO difference even if he was)

Not an airtight knee jerk in my view. The failures of this policy are well known.

I could indict a ham sandwich.

Few jurors know about nullification and follow the judge's directives.

An article in today's (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger. Guy was arrested for 5 pounds of marijuana. He had 15 pounds of pot brownies. 15 pounds was the entire weight of the brownies.

But it gets better .... He was also charged with drug paraphernalia...which consisted of the baking supplies.

Since we all know that Democrats use drugs and ..... well, just follow the logic.
