GOP Congresswoman Blames Deep State For Ben Carsons $31,000 Dining Set
Source: The Daily Beast
Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) appeared to blame the nefarious Deep State for ordering a costly dining set for Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson.
During a recent appearance on Talk! Of the Town, an upstate New York local radio show, the New York Republican was asked about the decision to buy a $31,000 dining room set for Carsons office last year. Tenney told the hosts that the Ben Carson story is so misunderstood before pointing to a no-named staffer of cryptic origin as the culprit.
First of all, I like Ben Carson a lot. I think hes really trying to do a great job there. But his staffer, one of his key people, was in my office the other day to talk about some of the housing issues that we have in our region and we were talking about that and he said you know, thats the most
Tenney said trailing off.
Somebody in the Deep State, it was not one of his people apparently, ordered a table, like a conference room table or whatever it was for a room, Tenney continued. And thats what the cost was. Ben Carson tried tohe said you know how hard it is to turn it back because of the way that the procurement happens?

After reports surfaced earlier this month that Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson spent $31,000 of taxpayer funds on a dining set for his government office, the former Republican presidential candidate said he was as surprised as anyone to find out about the lavish purchase.
Thats because Carsons wife was responsible for the decision, the secretary said at a congressional hearing on Tuesday.
After staffers gave Carson a few options for tables, the secretary said he left it with [his] wife and asked her to help choose something.
The next thing that I, quite frankly, heard about it was that this $31,000 table had been bought, he told a House Appropriations subcommittee. I said, What the heck is that all about? I investigated, I immediately had it canceled. Not that we dont need the furniture, but I thought that that was excessive.

(101,271 posts)Oh, sure, maybe in that House Appropriations Committee hearing Tuesday, Carson himself said that hed actually had very little input into the selection of the dinette, and was astonished by the prices hed seen in a catalog, but the reality was that I left it with my wife. But can we know for sure Carson is able to speak freely? Who knows what mysterious Deep State forces might be compelling him to shift the blame to someone else, which members of this administration would never stoop to?
Besides, in the radio interview, Tenney had plenty more to say. One host asked if nepotism may have played a role, since Candy Carson was involved in the furniture deliberation. Now thats just silly, Tenney explained:
Nepotism is when you hire a family member, Tenney corrected them. What it is is that people in the Deep State whove been there, they might bethey say hey were going to buy this because this is what somebody else did.
I know that Ben Carson did not order that table, Tenney continued. It has nothing to do with him. He comes from, you know, poverty.
Ergo, he is incapable of making bad decisions in an administration where other cabinet members are racking up millions of dollars in jet rides, building Cones of Silence in their offices, or blowing amazing amounts on new doors. You have to go for the obvious explanation: Somebodys setting up Ben Carson.
