Bolton Expected to 'Clean House'

Source: Foreign Policy

ncoming National Security Advisor John Bolton and people close to him are expected to launch a massive shake-up at the National Security Council, aiming to remove dozens of current White House officials, starting with holdovers from President Barack Obama’s administration, according to multiple sources.

Those targeted for removal include officials believed to have been disloyal to President Donald Trump, those who have leaked about the president to the media, his predecessor’s team, and those who came in under Obama.

“Bolton can and will clean house,” one former White House official said.

A second former White House official offered a blunt assessment of former Obama officials currently detailed or appointed to the NSC: “Everyone who was there during Obama years should start packing their shit.”

I bet the NRA already has volunteers lined up for manning the firing squads. With bump stock modified AR-15s, of course. Single shot rifles are so last century.

I just asked that question in another thread.

Trump seems to be dragging in the scum of the earth. Each one worse than the last.

Larry Kudlow has one of the worst records on the economy outside of Jim Cramer.or Greenspan, who finally admitted he was wrong. Fought Clinton all the way.

Let's not use that any more than we'd use "lynching," because what's contemplated here is neither.

I go with "purge," and it's the same word I used to think when back in 2009 and 2010 there were all these complaints about State Department career staffers hired from 2001 to 2008 that people were calling for being dismissed en masse. Because, obviously, they weren't loyal to Obama.

That was considered wise and prudent then. I thought it foolish.

If Bolton fires people who are engaging in gratuitous leaking, okay. They've broken troth with their boss. But if he just dumps anybody who, because of their non-work-related views, is suspected of disloyalty, then I have a problem. (I'd also say that I don't think that the producer of a great work of mathematics suddenly become the producer of mathematical crap because he beat his wife, or the painter of great works of art suddenly because anathema because he supports a totalitarian. I don't see that kind of taint by association holding true.)

If it's bad for the country, this administration either has already done it, or they will put someone in there who will get it done.

I hope we have Democratic presidents for at least the next three terms, because that's probably the least amount of time necessary to get a start on damage control. It only takes a few seconds to blow up a building. It takes years to rebuild it.

when he discovers he's just a prop in the reality TV presidency. He's going to tell Trump his opinion, then Trump's going up to the residence and get on the phone with his friends, get their opinions and reverse course on whatever it was Bolton told him.

I understand they'll only need two republicans to block his confirmation. Surely, there are still individuals left in the Senate who blocked him from being UN Ambassador, who still think he's unfit for any government job?

That is how Obama got Susan Rice back into his administration after she was hounded out as UN Ambassador and declined an offer of SOS position due to GOP Benghazi craziness after Hillary left. It's also how Carolina Rice first came into the Shrub administration before becoming SOS.
