Two Florida deputies killed in apparent ambush at restaurant

Source: FoxNews

Two sheriff’s deputies were shot and killed Thursday in a restaurant in Trenton, Fla., in what appeared to be an ambush, officials said.

The Gilchrist County deputies died "after a suspect walked up" to the Ace China restaurant around 3 p.m. "and shot both deputies through the window," the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said in a statement made on behalf of the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office.

"As fellow deputies responded to the scene, they found the shooter deceased outside the business, and both Deputy Sheriffs where they died of their wounds."

Trenton is about two hours southwest of Jacksonville.
At this point, there is no clear motive for the shooting, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said, adding that it was an active criminal investigation.

No more of this "good guy with a gun" bullshit. IMO no one in a city should be walking around with a fucking gun. Too many people with guns mean the police are afraid of everyone, hence they often shoot first out of that very fear. We all need to get on the same side against the NRA and the gun fanatics.

Even the bullshit about hunting. I have no doubt there are folks who hunt for any meat they consume. But really, in this day and age of domestic meat sources - saving you time, effort and providing health oversights - the hunting angle is weak at best. Hunters should just admit - it's the thrill of killing something that is the real draw.

And the good guy with a gun crap is every bit as phony. Look at the case of that 3-year old shooting her mom with her dad's pistol yesterday. You can damn sure bet that dad has a defense for his wife having a hole in her! IF the "news" outlets would devise the scenario that guns (every year) are worse than the 9/11 attack - and PUSH that story hard - maybe some folks would wake up. Maybe...

I prefer to eat natural meat, I like venison and wild pig, and do not want to pay someone else to do my dirty work.

Since I favor a strong, active federal government I hardly think there is a government plot.

I also support much more restrictive gun policies.

So - NO processed meat passes your lips. Having worked in a meat processing plant, I've had to deal with every aspect of the processing, from the killing to the product testing (I was a maintenance electrician). I can say without hesitation that there'd be a whole hell of alot more vegetarians on this planet if they had to dress a carcass before they could eat.

I don't begrudge you your taste for "real" meat, but you COULD go after it with a crossbow if there weren't any guns to be had. Could a crossbow kill a human? You bet! 6 months ago, a 28-year old was shot with a crossbow by his stepdad - not 200 feet from where I type this. Thing is, unlike a bump stock or a limber trigger finger - a crossbow is akin to an old musket. You're not going to have mass casualties strewn about when you have to stop and fit a new projectile with every shot!
BTW, the stepdad DID use a semi-automatic pistol to subsequently take his wife's life and then his own. I kinda consider him a "good guy with a gun" - since he used it to eliminate his sorry ass!

Would love to see them reverse the order!

I would love to say I hunt all my meat but i am unable. I do try to buy from small local producers who give their farm animals a non factory life and death. Being much more expensive we now eat much less meat which is good all the way around.

I will not hunt with an arrow because I have a rifle that is much less traumatic for the animal. Even with the best shot an animal shot with an arrow takes minutes to die as it runs and bleeds out. I pass on shooting unless I am reasonable sure of a very fast and clean kill.

And my bolt action rifle which holds 4 bullets is not going to be much use for a mass shooting.

An parenthetically to your experience, I was an animal science major for a few years and I have toured factory abattoirs. I switched to plant science later.

Have a nice weekend

someone's shot dead (or just shot) with an acceptable gun, how would you word the "pass" for it? How will you comfort the victim's family and friends with the fact that it was only a lowly shotgun that took their beloved's life?

Hey! I'll tell you what. Let's say one can have ANY style of gun one wants, but.... Any and all guns in private hands can only hold ONE cartridge. If you want to fire a second shot, you have to eject the spent shell and manually replace it with a fresh one.

Dead is dead. Torture for the sake of torture may ultimately end in death, but if you knew of farmers who went out of their way to exact a slow and agonizing execution of animals they were going to butcher - there's no excuse for those evil bastards.

On a dairy farm, you burn horns off cattle. You castrate males with no pain meds. You continually breed cows to maintain milk production, resulting in far more births than is natural and leading to mastitis from excess milking of teats if not careful. Some farms still practice branding.

On a hog farm, it is worse. Sows are held in crates for extended periods to prevent them from crushng their young. Piglets have their milk teeth snipped out to allow longer nursing and faster weight gain. Males are also castrated without pain meds, with a razor blade and a spray of iodine in the open wound (I swear I have hearing damage from the thousands of screaming pigs my dad and I did this to).

And none of this even touches the confinement and lack of movement. The cattle were lucky; they had pasture 6-8 months a year. The pigs were lucky if they ever saw mud and grass, being on concrete and straw almost their entire lives. Oh God, and the dust! A day in the barns in January, when everything is sealed up against the brutal cold, and you spend hours before bed hacking up black phlem. The animals breathed that 24/7.

Their deaths were the only things that were quick; a .22 shot between the eyes, a few kicks, and you slit their throat.

And this was on a small family farm, where life is far better for the animals than a factory farm.

You made it hard for me to swallow my steak last night. While I chewed, I mused as to whether early hominids thought anything about their slaughter of the last Woolly Mammoth. Were they giddy that it was a free-roaming, grass fed creature - or did they pine to have various cuts available to make life a tad easier?
Anyway, it was onto the next bite as that thought faded. Hey! Alley Oop! Pass the A1 wouldja?

12. From NYPost. 2Florida deputies shot dead in suspected ambush By Chris Perez April 19, 2018 6:23pm
Thu Apr 19, 2018, 07:39 PM
Apr 2018

"Two sheriff’s deputies have been killed in Florida Thursday— gunned down in broad daylight — during a suspected ambush, according to authorities.

The cops were eating at a Chinese restaurant in the city of Trenton, about 35 miles west of Gainesville, when the shooter walked up and started blasting through a window, officials said in a statement.

The gunman shot both deputies dead and then took his own life. Officials said no one else was injured. The incident happened around 3 p.m.....

From the Holmes Co Sherrifs FB page.
About an hour ago, two deputies with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office were shot and killed in a suspected ambush,” officials said. “Please keep the families of these deputies, Sheriff Bobby Schultz, and the rest of their law enforcement family in your prayers.”

If he's Middle Eastern, they'll blame terrorists.

If he's Hispanic, they'll blame illegal immigrants and call for a border wall.

If it's a white man, they'll try to blame drug abuse, and drugs that were smuggled in by Mexicans, and call for a border wall.

If they don't find drugs in his system, they'll send thoughts and prayers to the officer's families.

which is a bit ironic given the shooter is white:

Schultz said there was much he wanted to say, and much he shouldn't.

"But I will say this. We're not going to make this ... a political issue. Other than the fact, what do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement to the extent that it's been demonized? Every type of hate, every type of putdown that you can think of.

That was a pretty passive-aggressive way of adding his political $.02.

I can imagine what he's saying off-camera.

And it pisses me off that every incident of violence against the police is used as an attack on people who dare to protest police brutality, as if they dare not accuse ANY officer of such a thing. That is ridiculous.

They may never know what motivated this killer, but to assume that he killed these officers because the police are "demonized" [and it's pretty clear to me that he thinks that's by BLM or Kaepernick-type peaceful protest] is unprofessional and divisive speculation.

whom he may have blamed for depriving him of any hope he had left.

The picture of the cop in today's DU, who had pulled up a car with two AAs in it, to check their documentation (or the driver's), showed he had half-pulled out his pistol !

The temptaton for a young AA who'd been victimsed by those scum to ambush his tormentor(s), even at the prospect of incurring a life-sentence, must be very strong. If you are in despair, feel no hope, you would not necesarily think rationally when weighing the consequences. Personally, if I had ever been a perscuted AA, reduced to that state of mind, and without adequate spiritual resources, I would prefer to shoot their genitals. A kind of living death, such as they try to mete out to AAs.

Apparently, some unspeakably evil civilian types, in a suicidal despair, deliberately try to murder a police, would-be RESCUER with them, when jumping from a tall building, or some such. I'm suspicious of that young train-driver who had mental issues, who ran a train off its tracks round a bend at an insane speed, and somehow escaped injury himself. The excuse made for him sounded lame, to say the least, since, intiially it was found that there was no technical reason why the should have taken off like that. I think tehreqwas even a fail-safe braking system on the train.

Then there's the despairing psycho pilots, who'll take a whole plane full of passngers with them when they want to kill themselves. One had the gall to tell them they would be meeting Jesus soon.

Reading post 27, it sounds more like an exaggeratedd sense of grievance, though that can be a function of the general context of his life.

Dep. Sheriff Taylor Lindsey was single and 25. Highnote was 59.

?

Regarding their killer, so far there is no indication of recent interaction with police.

Heavy.com: John Highnote has a criminal history in Pinellas County, Florida, but it was an old one. In 1994, he was accused of misdemeanor criminal mischief, but the case was dismissed the following year. In 1978, he was accused of felony carrying a concealed weapon, but the charge was also dismissed.

He did have a slew of somewhat more recent traffic offenses in that county, but the most recent is 2001. He had only one offense listed in Gilchrist County court records, which is where his hometown of Bell is located. It was for improper turn in 2012.

Among the other minor Pinellas County offenses: Improper operation of a motorcycle, unlawful speed, running a stop sign and the like.

He was described in the court records as a white male who stood 5’8? and weighed 126 pounds. Highnote also had a weapons permit that expired in 2010 in Volusia County, online records show. He also previously had hunting permits in Florida. He doesn’t come up as currently registered to vote in Florida.
