San Antonio, TX A San Antonio police officer is under an internal investigation this week after cellphone video shows him slam a handcuffed 16-year-old girl into the counter in her school office and then force her down as she screamed for help.
According to the girl and the San Antonio police department, the entire incident allegedly began over cussing.
The incident occurred during school hours on Wednesday after an SAPD officer was called to Por Vida Charter High School. The officer was not called to the school to arrest the girl. Instead, he was there to remove a Spanish-speaking woman from the office for refusing to leave.
The 16-year-old girl, Tiffany Rodriguez explained to KABB news that the woman did not speak English and she thought the officer was treating her unfairly. So, she spoke up about it.
Yeah I was mouthing off, but I was mouthing off to help the lady out like translating Spanish, because he didnt know Spanish, said Rodriguez.

(14,569 posts)What's with that?
If you worked just 8 hours today, and no more than 40 this week; if you went into an office that was habitable and your working conditions were safe; if you are covered with Worker's Comp and Unemployment; if your 6 year old doesn't have to go to work in some sweatshop...then thank a union.
Because honest, hard-working people actually bled and died for your rights as a worker.
Didn't you know?
And, yeah, the union will protect this officer to a degree, but the officer can still be disciplined and even fired. So don't blame the union.
Maybe instead, let's talk about changing the law enforcement culture - body cams, exhaustive training, more community policing.
But lay off the unions.

(1,227 posts)I know feelings run deep and perspectives abound, but this is about a cop roughing-up a girl barely old enough to drive.

(9,696 posts)when I saw that comment - why the dig at unions? What needs to change is cop culture and hiring policies.

(4,886 posts)But when they defend unlawful behavior, people have every right to question them.
The "union" will fight for this idiot.
And that isn't right.
So, yeah, a right wing talking point

(9,696 posts)Cops will fight for their own, unionized or not. Getting rid of unions would have absolutly NO effect on cops getting away with bad behavior.

(6,916 posts)Anyone want to bet the cop watches GOP propaganda TV?
Fox spends a lot of time demonizing Hispanics.
If you want cops like this to change, the best thing to do is vote straight Dem. till at least 2040.

He needs to understand that protests (NOT "demonization" ) take place because police aren't held accountable for shit like this NEARLY as often as they need to be. Instead, police unions protect scum like this.

(15,229 posts)are even more despicably, more murderously criminal, than the rogue police they encourage. That phrase, 'the banality of evil' springs to mind so often, when we tend to judge by appearances and are surprised at the seeming ordinariness of some of the worst people.

She's lucky she wasn't AA or darker skinned, she'd be seriously hurt and dead or at the least in the hospital with serious or life threatening injuries or gunshot wounds.

Please repost either from a reliable news source that ran this in the last 12 hours (they picked it up from http://foxsanantonio.com/news/local/caught-on-camera-handcuffed-16-year-old-dragged-by-sapd-officer , but that appeared on Thursday), or repost in GD. Thanks.
