The presidents dubious logic on conservation is being called out on Twitter.

President Donald Trump commemorated Earth Day on Sunday by applauding his administrations efforts to roll back key environmental protections.
Trump stressed the importance of preserving the life-sustaining gifts of our magnificent land and waterways, abundant natural resources, and unique wildlife in a White House statement released Sunday.
It is our responsibility to protect them for our own benefit and that of generations to come, Trump said in the statement, before praising his administration for repealing regulations meant to do just that.
We know that it is impossible for humans to flourish without clean air, land, and water, according to the statement. We also know that a strong, market-driven economy is essential to protecting these resources. For this reason, my Administration is dedicated to removing unnecessary and harmful regulations that restrain economic growth and make it more difficult for local communities to prosper and to choose the best solutions for their environment.

Knowing that Pruitt is raping our environment and Donald says it is ok makes me sick.

(17,387 posts)...since Republicans have steadily won a large number of State governorships. I would think that right wing control of media though Sinclair, Fox and a lot of RW propaganda outlets has something to do with it, but if you rely entirely on election results, the working class supports regulatory roll backs and tax cuts to the rich.

(613 posts)I know LOTS of Republicans and trumpers. Almost to a person, they do not know whats really going on. They believe the propaganda and lies of the GOP.
Im actually very afraid of what happens when the GOP base figures out theyve been lied to by billionaires who are trying to enrich themselves. It could lead to civil unrest.

(3,148 posts)I mean I understand why we need many large areas with no human footprint, but that doesn't sell well to someone who wants a place to go hunting, dirt bike riding, four wheeling or just sit at a beach drinking beers with your dog by your side. What they 'get' is that for a lot of people 'open space' is useless unless you can easily drive there, bring your food and dog, maybe ride around a bit and have restrooms and garbage cans close at hand.
Paying tax money for or even having vast tracts that are only accessible by technical hikers or backpackers leaving zero footprint may make sense from a scientific standpoint but doesn't play well to a LOT of people I know, even here in California, who view 'the outdoors' as something for people to use, not just enjoy looking at from a distance or knowing it's preserved.
I'm just saying that this is a huge part of the appeal to gutting parts of the EPA and Interior.

He'll end up putting comedians out of work along with the rest of us. As it is even now, stand up comedy amounts to just reading the headlines.

Don't listen to the words, just the music and read/sing the lyrics below....

The Sound of Corruption
Hello, liar our old friend
We've come to vote you out again.
'Cause corruption softly was creeping
Left its seeds while you were sleeping.
And the vision that was planted in your brain
Still remains
Within the halls of corruption.
In restless halls you walked alone
made of polished granite stone
'Neath the halo of a desk lamp
You turned your life to the cold and damp
When your eyes were blinded by the flash of the neon light
That split the night
And touched the vision of corruption.
And in the naked light you saw
10 million people, maybe more
Voters talking loudly, protesting
You hear without listening
People writing laws that voters never knew
none of you
Disturb the sound of corruption.
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
corruption like a cancer grows,
Hear our protest we might teach you
Take our petition we might reach you"
But our words, like silent teardrops fell
And echoed in the wells of corruption
And the voters bowed and prayed
To the phony gods they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are
Written in history's walls
And tenement halls
And whispered for defeat of corruption."
