TOPEKA - A bill that ensures faith-based adoption agencies can turn away gay and lesbian couples based on religious beliefs will be signed into law by Gov. Jeff Colyer.
Kansas lawmakers passed the legislation after an intense debate early Friday. One suggested the need for the legislation proves the existence of the homosexual agenda while another said the bill judges people.
The Senate approved the bill 24-15 at 1:51 a.m. Friday after the House passed it Thursday night, 63-58. The bill had been dormant for weeks before lawmakers revived and passed it in a matter of hours.
Catholic Charities and other adoption agencies are key to the fabric of our communities. I look forward to signing this bill because it increases the opportunities for needy children to find loving homes, Colyer said in a statement early Friday.

(22,093 posts)in MO (KC and Jop), NE (Lincoln) and OK, and folks lived in Topeka a while. I didn't see any of this so called hatred in any of the folks then 1950s-1970s. A lot of good folks, neighbors, etc. This very small block in KS of a Pentecostal type belief (and similar types of beliefs) have the lawmakers in KS scrambling to pass such types of laws...
Thing is, most of folks I am thinking (young ones) do leave for other states for jobs or want more urbanism around them. Thus the remaining folks in KS are generally getting older (population as a whole), I'm totally speculating here, just a thought experiment.
It's a shame, a real shame, reducing the number of available homes for orphans and the like, simply because of a religious belief discriminating against a whole group of people (of course gays are of all colors races creeds etc., a wider group than just a race, male/female, etc.). Unfortunately this whole action, instead of helping those who are being overlooked (the orphans, etc.) are being ignored. It far more important to open the floodgates and help these kids out, absolutely no question. Don't play politics w/ it.
Acceptance of the gay community has been improving for many years, and I think by now, most normal people accept these facts that diverse communities exist and in fact, welcome them. This is the same for immigrant communities, where you have an International Fair in STLMO for like 100 different ethic groups in St Louis MO. The more, the more culture you're exposed to, and for the most part, you totally enjoyed the experiences.
I imagine that it'll be overturned...sounds very unconstitutional to me, discriminating on religious belief...

(67,101 posts)lawmakers in Kansas ruin it. Also, it's amazing what is going on in KC, MO, it's a beautiful city. It's horrible that some want to spread hatred, just horrible.

Yeah, I can see how that would fucking freak out a Kansas Republican (or nearly any Republican)....

(3,180 posts)What the actual fuck is he babbling about? If you cut out homosexual couples who are able and willing to adopt, how does that increase the chances of a kid being adopted? Does this bill create more heterosexual couples from thin air? If you have 100 couples willing to adopt and you disqualify 10, how do the odds of adoption go up?
I just... the stupidity on display in that statement makes my brain hurt. Then again, bigotry and stupidity go together so well, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Kind of like a law banning alcohol unless your 55+ and then claiming it will boost the economy because more liquor stores will open.

(4,371 posts)There has always been a little intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries,
they have a hard time with the words...freedom, democracy, common sense....
Not all...fear of change, all these things in all people everywhere, most of us can see through
the bs.....but in some places
people are influenced by the voices for the 1%ers and the media. AM stations, during
the obama days, were nothing more than conservative psyco babble...from both the
news side and christian ads. Get enough of this total bombardment of untruths and
stupidity, 24 - 7...it changes people. Brownback is a good example of unbridled
bullshit concerning kansaas economic needs and ultrarigthwing religious fanaticism.
Brownbutt showed that fanaticism through "sacrifice of the people" policies..Its
good for the lower classes to sacrifice for the good of everyone...the rich
fucks platform..
