Source: CNN

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was detained by police Saturday shortly after arriving at a protest against President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, his official Facebook page said.

Navalny's team, which organized the protest in Moscow and several other cities in Russia, told CNN he was detained shortly after arriving at central Pushkinskaya Square in the Russian capital.

Images showed Navalny, who was arrested for illegal protest organization, being carried through the crowds by police.

My guess is that Putin knows if an "accident" happens this will be the start of his downfall. At least I hope that's the case.

and our best hope that they would someday get out of our elections.

I remember him in prayers, something I haven't done since I was a kid.

9. There does seem to be a part of the brain that loves an authoritarian leader

in a large part of the populations of every country. That they will forgive a vast array of bad, even criminal, behavior, to be able to have a Dear Leader of their own. Made up mostly of the countries ethnic majority. They love to have a leader just like them, who will at least give off the illusion that he is working for them, and putting others in the minority on the back burner. Though he is only working for himself and his families acquired wealth.

That part of the brain has been mostly dampened down in North America. There are laws about term limits which help. And other checks and balances. But just as Putin has found 'legal' ways to skirt laws so the new Trumpublicans could. Trump is already blatantly abusing his office for profits. He's smearing the countries law enforcement agencies and other institutions. All it might take is some new terror attack, whether a false flag or not, to solidify and even expand his base. All the while having his allies take over the countries media. (Like Fox, Sinclair and Clear Channel) .

After a generation living under this it would become even more normalized. Look at the extreme example of North Korea. A population so brainwashed that they would vote for their abuser over and over.

Some people/countries will always deal with Putin

or their major airports will be attacked(Turkey),
their country will be invaded(Crimea),
their seaport owned by Russia(Syria),
their brother will be sprayed in face & dead within hour(NK)
the p-p 'tape' will be released(/wink, pptape is blackmailed Republicans code)
the list goes on forever.

There are so many good people in Russia. I have known Russians from my University, and they are all excellent folks. Putin and his Regime are anti-democratic. The Russian People deserve a functioning democracy, not authoritarian Putin.

We as Americans need to support democracy and freedom in Russia. It would be good for the Russian People, but a Russian Democracy would also be good for Global Security and American National Security. More power to the Putin Opposition!

It is very much possible to discuss politics in Russia, but not in the dominant medias.
