Trump tells NRA a civilian gunman could have stopped Paris attack

Source: France24

Latest update : 2018-05-05

In a speech before cheering members of the National Rifle Association on Friday, President Donald Trump blamed the scale of the 2015 Paris terror attacks on France’s strict gun control laws and called again for the arming of school teachers.

Trump called France’s gun laws “the toughest gun laws in the world,” and said that they prevented victims of the deadly 2015 attacks from fighting the terrorists.

“They took their time and gunned them down one by one,” Trump said of the terrorists, using his hand to pantomime the shooting: "Boom. Come over here. Boom. Come over here. Boom."

130 people were killed in the series of coordinated bombings and shootings that took place on the night of November 13, 2015. Gunmen held hundreds hostage in the Bataclan theater. 89 were killed.

6. Victims of Paris attacks, Hollande condemn Trump's statements at the NRA

May 2018

Former French president François Hollande joined survivors of the 2015 extremist attacks in Paris in rejecting remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said the tragedy would have ended differently if people had been carrying firearms.

{snip}

“We are outraged by this level of indecency,” said Philippe Duperron, president of the survivors association 13onze15. “Alas, no weapon would have changed the outcome because there were suicide bombers wearing explosive belts who were going to blow themselves in the places they were attacking.” He also accused Trump of shamelessly using victims.

Former French President Hollande also condemned Trump’s remarks. "The shameful comments and obscene antics of Donald Trump say a lot about what he thinks about France and her values," said Hollande in a statement in French. "The friendship between our peoples will not be stained by this disrespect and outrageousness. All my thoughts are for the victims of the November 13 attacks.”

"Indecent and incompetent. What more is there to say?” tweeted former Prime Minister Manuel Valls along with an article on Trump’s statements at the NRA.

I think he's still mad about the handshake heard round the world LOL. Incidentally Macron hasn't done himself any favors by palling around with Cheeto. He's been in the woods politically since he invited his new American bud to Paris. This is from a "fête à Macron" Saturday that was planned as a celebration of his first year in office but turned into a massive protest:

trump was mad at Macron because he dissed him to US Congress. And, there was that missing tree incident.

So the French people are protesting because Macron's "policies favor the rich".. sounds like the US rigged in dictator.

I hate the NRA’s position that CCW carriers are essentially superheroes. The gunmen had AK-47’s. On the off-chance someone did have a gun, they would have been horribly out-gunned and probably would have died.

I would argue that those two cops erred in going in themselves. One never made it out of his car, and the other was executed on the spot. A single CCW holder would have had even worse odds.

I agree with everyone who has commented in this thread.

That said I find it deeply disturbing that he spoke to a private group of people about other nation's gun laws.

What happened in Paris was a terror attack. It wasn't about 2nd amendments in another country that doesn't have a second amendment.

This is really dangerous rhetoric.

Civilian concealed carry is not about trying to do some "Die Hard" heroics if shit hits the fan.

It's about YOU getting YOUR ass to safely. There's way too much going on and way too little information available to do anything else.
