Pence to call on Venezuela to suspend elections: report

Source: The Hill

Vice President Pence will use a keynote speech at the Organization of American States (OAS) to call on Venezuela to suspend its upcoming elections, according to Bloomberg.

Venezuela is planning to hold its elections on May 20. President Nicolás Maduro is running for reelection for a second six-year term.

Pence will reportedly call for a postponement of the vote, originally scheduled for April 22, until conditions are better for a free and fair election.

The European Union is also calling for postponement of the elections.

Sounds like a win for Maduro either way.

can call for 'fair' elections ... note how often Trump uses that term when anything goes against him ... and that is is appropriate for them to be able to schedule and cancel elections, even in a foreign country. Now that's out of the way ... will they do it here?

for some made-up reason. Everybody has laughed at the idea. I think it is very real. Maybe a war? A now 9/11? Maybe a 'national emergency'? Martial Law due to filthy illegal immigrants? How about, Oh My GOD! Russia is trying to hack our elections and we need to verify the validity of the election before we can allow it?

And so it begins.

7. When, exactly, will conditions in Venezuela be more amenable to free and fair elections?

I've been to Venezuela. I love the country, and I have many good friends there. That being said, the country is a political wreck. Hugo Chavez did a real number on the place, and Maduro hasn't improved the situation. I can't see anything short of a full-blown revolution changing things, and I'm not sure that would make things better.

And Why not? It worked so well last century.

You're right. The US shouldn't "claim ownership" of any SA country. Nor should it contribute anything to the oppressive tyrants who run any of those countries. Certainly no business will ever set foot in the country because they know they'll either be seized, or never paid for their services.
The Venezuelans must rise up on their own. And then the US can recognize an actual functioning govt. FOR the people.
