SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A Democratic candidate for Congress in New Mexico is using an expletive in television ads to condemn the National Rifle Association and inaction by U.S. lawmakers on gun control.

Albuquerque City Council member Pat Davis says “F— the NRA” during the 15-second ad broadcast Friday by an Albuquerque-area television station.

KRQE-TV General Manager Bill Anderson says the station is not permitted by law to censor or edit Davis’ commercial and must provide equal access to candidates.

Davis is competing in a six-way race for the Democratic nomination for an open congressional seat based in Albuquerque.

But I'll tell you what's obscene. Children blown apart with an AR-15. There is NOTHING more obscene than that.

My niece attends Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. She is 15. She knew every single one of the dead children. They were her friends. She has known some of them for years. They were in her classes, some in multiple classes.

The shooter knew exactly what building he was targeting. It's known on campus as The Freshman Building because that is where the bulk of their classes are held.

When SWAT came to escort her class outside, these children had to walk past bodies in pools of blood, pieces of bodies splashed around, brains and intestinal organs splattered on the walls. Something that did not make it in most of the news reports is this: the shooter aimed for peoples faces.

Does anyone out there know what an AR-15 does to the human body ? Some of you military folks know this first hand. When a bullet exits the rifle barrel, it does so at 400% the energy of the most powerful handgun on earth. With that much energy enveloping the round, it sets up with it a shock wave of pure energy. When that shock wave hits soft tissue, it obliterates it. It's not a clean through-and-through, unless you're hit in an extremity. If the round hits bone, it pulverizes it to powder. Organs look like they've been through a blender. Trauma surgeons will tell you that nothing can repair that kind of damage. You cannot get to the hospital fast enough.

THIS is what my niece had to see on her way out of the building. She's 15. Or she was. She will NEVER be the same sweet, bubbly, open, free little girl she was. She has had her innocence stolen and her childhood ripped away from her. All of the children have been dealt the same obscenity.

I'm sorry to have been so graphic, but my anger seethes over and the tears of hot rage splash down my cheeks, uncontrollable, every time I hear some NRA gun-whore defend the right to own a militarized weapon of war. No civilian "needs" an assault weapon. It is not a hunting rifle, unless you're hunting human beings. Like children.

So, FUCK THE NRA. You can tell me it's obscene, but my niece knows what real obscenity looks like in every one of the night terrors that visit her. She's only 15 . . .

No child should experience what she has seen.

I personally feel the 2nd Amendment should be repealed, because it has been powerfully misconstrued by NRA pornography.

I hope your niece can overcome this.

Best wishes.

24. What the NRA has done
Sat May 12, 2018, 10:19 PM
May 2018

is intentionally and strategically weaponized the Second Amendment. They have appropriated and perverted it, shaping it into a marketing tool in order to flood the country with military-grade hardware. That said, the Second is now infringing upon and undermining our other constitutionally-guaranteed rights. The slaughter of American children in NOT the price of freedom (Fuck you, Bill O'Reilly.) it is the price of unregulated corporate greed and political corruption. It is the ultimate loss of freedom.

Thank you for your kind words about my niece. We are very worried about her and how this has changed her. She is in for a long, difficult road ahead. All of the Parkland children (and other shootings) are struggling. Imagine having PTSD at 15.

Your remarks are well taken.

It is time to repeal the amendment, since it is subject to such spectacular misrepresentation as you point out.

I am disinterested in Bill O'Reilly, a known pervert, whose idea of "freedom" is the "freedom" to deny others their freedom to live.

Unfortunately this country was founded by people, a subset of whom believed that "freedom" included the "freedom" to deny other people their freedom.

I don't follow O'Reilly, and what I know of him is only by osmosis. This said, if he used that kind of rhetoric - I wouldn't surprise me - it represents a subtext for the Racist party to endorse human slavery, something I surely believe with which they are not all that uncomfortable.

As 45 has demonstrated, using shock language gets people's attention. Let's see what the follow up message is. As a previous post suggested, he has an opening to say, what are you more offended by, me saying the word fuck, or the illegal violence that the NRA endorses by default with its extreme position on guns?

If he gets traction, this could be a national strategy for dealing with the NRA.

Even though it's intellectually dishonest, we should start blaming the NRA for gun violence. The tag line should be: they are in a position to save our children's lives. But they refuse. #NRAkillskids

During WWII, there were many people who resisted using gorilla warefare tactics to fight against Hitler's army. But Churchill knew that such tactics were vital because of how ruthless the enemy was.

I think we are in a similar position. 45 will ruin the country--maybe the world. We have to do whatever it takes to win.

and denounce the ad and say it doesn't meet the party's minimal standards of expected candidate conduct. There's going to be people who will be absolutely LIVID over this - I certainly wouldn't be happy if I had a young child in the room and this F bomb went out without warning on over the air television.

22. There was a warning:
Sat May 12, 2018, 04:43 PM
May 2018
Davis’ ad ran around 12:30 p.m. local time on KRQE, the local CBS affiliate in Albuquerque. The station’s general manager, Bill Anderson, explained that the ad would run with the profanity because the station is not allowed to censor political spots. But the station also planned to run a warning beforehand.

“We received a request for airtime from a legitimate federal candidate for office, and according to federal election rules, we are required to give him the same access as his opponents,” he said. “This station, by law, is not permitted to censor or in any way edit this commercial.”

Instead, the station ran a warning right before the ad appeared, advising viewers it may contain “inappropriate language.”

A. Saying "Awww c'mon guys! Please stop beating me up! Give me back my glasses pleeeeeease."

or

B. An full force fist to the face.

The Dems have become adept at the former but this guy is engaging in the latter and seeing that fills me with a sense of pride that there are still Dems that come up swinging. Very refreshing.
