[ID Gov. candidate] Paulette Jordan claims Democratic victory: 'We won this race by everyone.'

Source: Idaho Statesman

Surrounded by a loud, jubilant crowd in a small Boise bar, Paulette Jordan claimed victory in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, beating two-time candidate AJ Balukoff and going one step closer to becoming the first female, Native American governor in the United States.

“I didn’t win this race by Democrats alone,” the 38-year-old former state legislator declared as red white and blue balloons popped and supporters cheered, nearly drowning her out. “We won this race by everyone.”

She thanked her supporters and her family and her ancestors. She vowed that “never again” will Democrats have to vote for the lesser of Republican evils. She promised to fight “with every single ounce of my life” for access to health care and better education and to preserve the wild lands that make Idaho so special.

“We are not afraid, and never again will we stand down,” Jordan said. “This is a great celebration tonight... Come tomorrow this race is still going on. We’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

I'm surprised at her margin. On the other side of the coin, she won't be facing either Alquist or Labrador in November. I am really glad to see Raw Wool not make the cut. Next stop for him, Lobbyistville?

Beside the perpetuation of the usual knuckleheads in the statewide races, the only other real disappointment was Russ Fulcher taking Raw Wool's old Dist. 1 seat. Fulcher's got every bit of the jerk, even more mean and with some time in office, he may be more dangerous than Raw W. Labrador. David Leroy or Luke Malek would've been my hope for that position. Oh well. In six months, we've got a slim to none chance of turning that seat blue.

of ballots and this is only the primary. That's a fantastic auger for the future. If she doesn't win the D v Goliath fight this time, this will be an excellent launch for her to run for another high office in 2020.

Best of luck, Idaho!

She sounds like someone I would have voted for. Now she's got to inspire a red state to go blue.

Here's yesterday's article by Vox on Idaho's gubernatorial races.

The super-expensive, heated governor’s race you aren’t paying attention to
There’s a governor’s race in the fastest-growing state in the country: Idaho.

new faces and new momentum hopefully making positive changes in this state's direction. IMO, we're growing too fast but perhaps this new blood on the left, coupled with the new voices moving in, can wrestle our ship of state from its good-ole-boy, small government, big-bidness, tax-cut past to a more equitable and responsive future.

Debbie Downer here: And then January rolls around, legislature's in session and the first thing on their agenda is....wait for it.... another effin tax cut. Damn, seems like I've seen it a thousand times and I'm sick of it. It's all they got, that one-trick pony named Tax Cut. Idaho IS a great place to live but it also finds itself at the bottom of the barrel in a lot of areas that can only be addressed by adequate funding of government.

So, here's to what hopefully comes ahead after yesterday's results. A bright, prosperous, appropriately planned for future. For everybody.

End of lack-of-sleep induced bloviation. And thanks for the link.

the view from that end though, thanks.

One thing, conservative government doesn't seem to have as many opportunities and power to oppress out in the wide open spaces some have in abundance out there. Even conservatives don't like it. In town, and here in Georgia, it can be very different.

Good luck!
