Sanders group reverses, ditches aide who made anti-immigrant comments
Source: Politico
The Bernie Sanders-inspired Our Revolution has cut ties with group president Nina Turner's personal consultant, following a public airing of anger from board members and staff over past anti-immigrant and pro-Donald Trump comments.
Turner announced that the group would stop paying Tezlyn Figaro on Wednesday afternoon. Turner had said as recently as Tuesday afternoon that Figaro would stay on, despite the complaints published in a POLITICO article on Monday.
An Our Revolution spokesperson declined to explain what had changed.
"Consistent with my practice of not disclosing employment matters, I will not comment further on Tezlyn Figaro other than to say that she is no longer with the organization. We wish her well," Turner said in a statement provided by the spokesperson.

(68,539 posts)I think hiring Tezlyn Figaro was a bad move...she is anti-immigrant and has supported Trump on Fox. She is frequently on Fox ...OR has not lived up to its expectations. Figaro was a friend of Turners...she plays favorites with hires and endorsements...pretty much what this group accused the DNC of doing.

(22,912 posts)The OR Board had already soured on Figaro. It was only Turner who was standing by Figaro. On Tuesday the news was:
Turner stated that Figaro is still part of our staff, though the matter is under advisement by myself and the Our Revolution board of directors.
I don't think Our Revolution so much "reversed" their position on Figaro, they hastened it, likely over Turner's objection. The politico story cited here goes on to report:
"Earlier this month, however, board members blocked Turner from promoting Figaro to be the group's chief of staff. They had compromised then by allowing Figaro to stay on for a few months as a consultant."
(Bolding above is my own)
I'm not a member of Our Revolution, but I support the position its Board has taken regarding Figaro
