Trump rips 'Fake News' for reports of concessions to North Korea

President Trump on Sunday took aim at the media for its critical coverage of his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"Funny how the Fake News, in a coordinated effort with each other, likes to say I gave sooo much to North Korea because I 'met,'" Trump tweeted.

Trump held a summit with Kim last Tuesday in Singapore, marking the first time a sitting U.S. president and sitting leader of North Korea met face-to-face.

They got what they wanted....global recognition by the US and the prestige attached to that, in exchange for?.......something that sorta kinda looks like something resembling a thingy called denuclearlization, which everyone has a different definition for, with most definitions being mutually exclusive. Suffices to say, NK will not give up it's nukes. Given our penchant for regime change and this admin's lack of anything remotely resembling integrity, they would be crazy to even consider it. Thus, they got what they wanted. We got?? Well? Nothing, except international smirks and snickers publicly, rolling on the floor laughter by the international community in private. Kim Yung Un smiled and offered some platitudes about denuclearization. He doesn't have to worry about deadlines or verification by inspectors -- those aren't specified in the agreement. He got 100% of what he wanted the moment he and the alleged Leader of the Free World shook hands, giving him instant credibility. Trump, on the other hand, will jump through hoop after hoop as he pursues the illusive Nobel Peace Prize.

Unrelated to the OP: Why does Trump refer to himself in the third person, and specifically by his last name? The best reason I can find relates to his narcissistic personality, which enables him to charm people at first but annoy them as they get to know them. One study, entitled, “You Probably Think This Paper’s About You," (reported on in Time magazine) examined the qualities of narcissism:

Like that call, it was an important event where communication increased enormously. Note Obama prudently avoided even a meeting on the sidelines of the UN for a phone call. It then took more than 2 years of negotiating from a talented American team with both John Kerry and Ernie Moniz working with the others in the p5+1.

I hope that the hard work is done in North Korea to really move things away from war here - as it was in Iran. As it is, we do not even have the Clinton era agreement, which Wendy Sherman, who was involved in negotiating both that deal and the Iran deal, as something that informed their effort to build a comprehensive inspection program in the Iran deal.

What is most troubling in Trump's comments is the idea that he speaks of a "deal" that has not yet even been defined. To put it in Trump real estate terms, it would be like me declaring after meeting with a realtor for the first time saying our house was sold and it was a great deal -- when even the listing price was not yet agreed upon, much less a buyer found.

He then complains that he is not given enough credit for "peace". In fact, he has gotten MORE credit than Obama and Rouhani did when they were at the same stage. I hope this is a window of opportunity and that Trump is smart enough to take advantage of it. Not to mention, even when the world did get a nuclear deal in Iran, there was not universal praise for Obama.

11. The problem that will never be overcome, in my opinion....

is the heart of this whole deal, denuclearization. One can't have a meaningful negotiations until all parties at least agree to some very basic definitions. Denuclearization still means widely different things to the parties involved. To NK, it apparently means, yea, maybe, we'll think about it someday.

The reality was and is, there are virtually no "carrots" we can give Kim that would entice him to give up the best insurance against regime change a despot dictator can ever possess. And now, according to media reports, we've dropped the "sticks" of sanctions and potential military action. And for what? Some vague "we'll think about it...to be decided later" response from NK?

In essence, this "deal", if you want to call it that, is so fucked up and flawed from the get go, there's no possible way of it every accomplishing anything constructive.
