Manafort in Solitary Confinement to Protect Against Violent ‘Street Cred’ Attack, Trump’s Ex-Lawyer Says

by Aidan McLaughlin | 5:49 pm, June 19th, 2018

Paul Manafort has been put in “solitary confinement” according to John Dowd, his friend and President Donald Trump‘s former lawyer.

Trump’s jowly ex-attorney on the Russia investigation told Fox News that after Manafort’s $10 million bail was revoked, he was put “in solitary confinement for his own safety from the general prison population.”

“The warden is concerned that someone would violently attack Paul just for street cred,” Dowd added. He also said Manafort’s imprisonment was an “outrageous violation” of his civil liberties.

“They make all prisoners return to their cells whenever Paul needs to leave his cell,” Dowd added.

I read that as Dowd explaining the warden's reasoning for putting Manafort in solitary, and then adding his (Dowd's) own opinion on Manafort being imprisoned. It's a very poorly written sentence. It seems editors aren't a thing anymore, judging by how many times I see stuff like this in the press.

the riskier the task, the more impressive the action, the greater the cred.

If they're really concerned they wouldn't raise the stakes, thereby raising the gain.

But in a more reality based world - I doubt anyone currently serving time with Manafort finds him worth the effort.

Saying you fear for your client's life is often a means to get them out of prison or get some other arrangement.

Sometimes it is true - say, for instance, are they housing any Russian mobsters?

Any guards connected to the Russian mob?

Warden worried about the other prisoners but what about the COs?

Linda has since passed away, but was possibly the oldest living Muscular Dystrophy patient in the country -- and a quadriplegic with a permanent trache and portable oxygen tank. I remember that one journalist described her testimony at a heated public meeting thus "...pausing a moment to suck air..." Well, yes, that was how she had to live her life, and testimony to her enduring determination and vitality. The picture was indelible.

miniature rainbow flag" is painting a vivid word-picture that is most likely relevant to the story, and it isn't intended as a negative comment on someone's personal appearance. "Jowly" is irrelevant to this story and sticks out. There is no other similar descriptive language in the brief article, so the reporter is failing at painting a word-picture if that was the intent. I think it actually is more illuminating in regard to what the skinny, 20-something, recent university graduate (I looked him up) who wrote the description finds compelling about the 77-year-old Dowd. (Should I mention the reporter appears to have a somewhat receding chin?) If Dowd is one of the Vulgar Talking Yam-loving Neanderthals who (for example) trash certain women for being fat, while being overweight themselves, then "portly" or "jowly" could be relevant in revealing the hypocrisy... but otherwise it just contributes to looks-ism, fat shaming and ageism.

Things people choose to do to themselves are fair game: like spraying themselves orange, or wearing absurdly long ties, or dyeing and arranging what remains of their hair in ludicrous and garish ways. A homeless person being unshaven and rumpled doesn't seem very newsworthy, but those are relevant details when describing someone like Bannon, since it's such a departure from the norm for WH advisors.

This isn't to defend Dowd... but to defend others who are only guilty of being jowly. It's not a neutral descriptor.

All this policy will do - is highlight the opportunities when he is available - to the population.

He would have been better off, doing his time like everyone else, learning how to fight or take an ass-whipping or two, or three.

Because if he is convicted - he cannot live his life in solitary confinement - he will go crazy.

And guess what, even in solitary, if someone wants you, you will not be safe.
