Trump "boxed in," won't back down on family separation
Source: Axios
Speaking to House Republicans at the Capitol last evening, President Trump admitted the political pressure over family separations at the border is growing. But a top aide said Trump "doesn't want to look weak" by backing down.
What we're hearing: Trump told members that his daughter Ivanka Trump had talked to him about the images of children, and told him what a problem they are, Axios' Caitlin Owens reports. But Trump left any solution up to Congress.
What Trump is thinking ... A senior administration official, after Axios asked whether Trump thinks the family separation issue is a political winner because it makes him look hardcore on the border:
Not at all. He's doing it to press the case with Congress. He's moved personally, but also doesn't want to look weak. He feels boxed in, is frustrated and knows it's bad politics but also understands it's not a fight he can back down from."

Apparently her comments to her father were about what a problem the "images are." Not about the immorality and horror of the policy.

(4,919 posts)I'm not defending her generally... But, growing up with a narcissist myself... You learn that they only think about things as far as how they relate to them. She's probably dealt with his personality disorder all her life, and I'm sure that she's acquired those traits herself.

(9,886 posts)You have to approach people where they are, not where you think they should be.
Not:
Ivanka - Ya know Dad, this separating children from their parents is downright immoral and not what America should be about.
Trump - I don't care, I'm the Man. Nobody can tell me what to do, I'm King of the World. Plus, Obama...
Better:
Ivanka - Dad, you are right about having to enforce the law and all, but it really looks bad to people who believe the fake news and think you are taking babies away from their mothers. Plus, the failing NYT is printing pictures. Women cry when they hear about mothers losing their babies, like that girl on the news last night. Maybe if you fire someone big the fake news will focus on that and then you can back off a little with the kids and everyone will forget the whole thing.

(11,885 posts)And hurting these children permanently intentionally makes him look criminal. Isn't this high crimes enough ? This has to stop now, or he'll take it to a higher level of abusing children and people with. he needs to be asked to resign after doing this to children . This country will never be looked upon again as a beacon unless he's removed for this now. The world is watching who we are as a nation, good, or evil.

(1,819 posts)It's expected that we will have 20,000 children in detention camps by the end of August.
Asylum seekers that have already been released can't find their children. No one seems to know what's going on with the girls and toddlers, parents are given phone numbers to find out about their kids and those phone numbers don't work. DHS won't let the press in to see what's going on but from reports of what we know it sounds like Chaos.
As these dentition camps fill up with babies the problem is only going to get worse he's creating a human catastrophe at the border.

(11,885 posts)Can never be accepted , or WE have become a shxthole country also. Child abuse is a crime against humanity, and this has to stop from trump being forced by Congress to reverse this , or they'll take measures against his remaining in office, and if they don't god help us for what they're doing to this country.

(6,899 posts)He creates a crisis and gets concessions from the other side to fix the crisis he created. He is not bluffing, he is a terrorist who will stop at nothing to win. This time he is holding children hostage to extract a border wall.
The "opposition" from other Republicans to ripping children from their parents is not real. They will return to blaming Democrats for their leaders policies after they've extorted enough concessions.
These are terrorists who have taken control of our country. They are now working to make that control permanent.
We know that the only possible response to terrorism is to refuse any concessions. We know that Trump and his allies are terrorists. No concessions can be the only response.

No matter how bad the decision was, he's going to ride it to the end. Or at least until he can shift all the blame onto someone else. I don't think blaming Democrats has gotten much traction.
So now he tosses it to Congress. They alone can fix it!
Coward! Craven Coward! You think only of yourself, first and formost. Your political well being. Let everyone else just rot.
This is no leader. And this is extremely weak, not strong at all. We all know it. When you have dug yourself into a hole, stop digging!
He is doing himself lasting political damage, if that's any consolation. This makes Bush's Katrina look so tame.
