Immigrant children forcibly drugged with 'powerful' psychotropics at Texas 'treatment center': lawsu
Source: Raw Story
In a new lawsuit, immigrant children detained at a government-funded facility in Texas described being forcibly drugged with psychotropic medicines that made them dizzy and unable to walk.
Reveal reported Wednesday that minors held at the Shiloh Treatment Center in Manvel, Texas described in its Google+ listing as a baby gulag were physically abused and given shots of powerful psychiatric medications that rendered them unable to walk, afraid of people and wanting to sleep constantly.
In the affidavits, the children and their parents said workers at the facility told them they would not be allowed to leave or see their parents if they didnt take the medicine, which was administered via shots. The children were allegedly told the shots were vitamins.
The supervisor told me I was going to get a medication injection to calm me down, one girl said. Two staff grabbed me, and the doctor gave me the injection despite my objection and left me there on the bed.
According to one mother, her child fell repeatedly, hitting her head, and ended up in a wheelchair. Another described trying to open a window and being hurled against a door by a Shiloh supervisor, who then choked her until she fainted.
One child was prescribed 10 different shots and pills including the antipsychotic drugs Latuda, Geodon and Olanzapine, the Parkinsons medication Benztropin, the seizure medications Clonazepam and Divalproex, the nerve pain medication and antidepressant Duloxetine, and the cognition enhancer Guanfacine, the report noted.

Read the article - it's awful. This is so awful it's hard to even post it. This private company was operating immigrant housing and abusing children there even in 2014! Are we evolving into the Fourth Reich?

I wasn't sure when someone said there was something they were hiding.. but omg it's ALWAYS worse than you think.
Assuming this is true and backed up... (how can you doubt it really.. that's life now)
HOW DO YOU GET WORSE THAN KIDNAPPING BABIES FROM PARENTS????
Where is the bottom?
It was sick already. There are no words.

(9,474 posts)the lawsuit. It's true, and it's even worse than you can imagine. I'm a retired RN, and I can tell you that every medical professional involved in this should lose their licenses and be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This is child abuse on steroids, and every bit as bad as what went on in those infamous Romanian orphanages. In addition to giving them the drugs, there are also accusations of physical abuse. I am beyond livid.

(4,341 posts)No, that is not life now, that is acceptance, we need to fight it, instruct other people, try to open other people's eyes to the reality of what is "temporarily" happening for all of us to help change it.
If we accept that the horrific things that are going on our country at this time then we are doomed...
There are so many other things that these criminals are doing behind everyone's backs, they are destroying, temporarily, everything that is good in the USA, but we cannot and shall not accept it as the norm, that is what they would like everyone to do...don't let them.
Everyone seems to be waiting for Muller, but we need to show other people who usually don't learn about these things and make sure they vote to take these criminals out of office.
Thank you for speaking the truth.

After Dad died, they put her on Wellbutrin. She was not the same person! It was a drastic change in her personality. Oh how I hated that sh*t! She called them her "happy pills". Happy? WTF??
And yes, they drugged her up to shut her up. In the end, her "mental problems" ended being metastasized cancer! She was dead in 3 months!

(41,056 posts)psychotropic meds like Wellbutrin (related to Chantix maybe) cause bizarre side effects on some people and got a bad reputation, I think. The way powerful meds are easily dispensed and overused in prisons, nursing homes and other instances is disturbing and dangerous. These days you have to be careful about some meds, do a little homework especially with the large increase in prescription drugs in the last decades and much advertising and some iffy regulation. I'm not at all ant-medicine, people just need to know themselves and get good background info.

Hundreds of pages of medical records were filed in the U.S. District Court in California in April. They were filed as part of an ongoing class action lawsuit against the government that alleges mistreatment of immigrant children in U.S. custody.
Forensic psychiatrist Mark. J. Mills assessed the records at Reveals requests, and found that Shiloh orderlies were given an unusually wide berth with dosage recommendations for the children in their care.
Maribel Hernandez, a Honduran asylum-seeker whose son was held at Shiloh after being referred for psychological issues at another facility, told Reveal her case worker sent her a video of the boy in which he appeared completely hypnotized and lethargic. She said she repeatedly objected to the medication, and never signed consent forms. . .
Shiloh received $19 million in federal funding after repeated allegations of abuse at the facility. In 2014, the Reveal report noted, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) called for it to be shut down after a Houston Chronicle investigation revealed allegations of physical violence, unreasonable and excessive use of physical restraints, administering emergency medications without notice to governmental authorities, and several deaths of minor children while in custody.

(2,296 posts)Federal agency's shelter oversight raises questions
By Susan CarrollDecember 19, 2014 Updated: December 20, 2014 11:30pm
(snip)
For years, children in custody at Shiloh have complained of physical abuses and painful restraints, a review of state licensing reports shows. Nearly four years ago, the state shut down another treatment center founded by the same Texas businessman after the death of a foster child who'd been restrained in a closet. The Brazoria County district attorney wrote letters to ORR months later, urging the federal government to increase monitoring at Shiloh.
Despite the warning and complaints, ORR exempts treatment centers like Shiloh from its policy requiring shelters to notify it each time a child is restrained or injected with "emergency medicine" - potent psychotropic drugs. The agency has not responded to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Houston Chronicle in January for monitoring reports and other communication with Shiloh.

I don't know how much is new here. Apparently Shiloh is a center for troublesome cases and has a history of physical and mental abuse, and injecting psychotropic drugs to minors without oversight. I don't know what its status is now.
Following links to the original Raw Story article led me to this case: Flores v Jefferson B Sessions et al.
There is an opinion (below, bold is mine) by an appellate court saying plaintiffs have a right to a court hearing.

United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.
JENNY LISETTE FLORES, Plaintiff-Appellee, v. JEFFERSON B. SESSIONS III, Attorney General; THOMAS E. PRICE, M.D., Secretary of Health and Human Services; JOHN KELLY, Secretary of Homeland Security; U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY; U.S. IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT, Defendants-Appellants.
No. 17-55208
Decided: July 05, 2017
Before: Reinhardt, Tashima, and Berzon, Circuit Judges.
OPINION
In this case we apply the straightforward tools of statutory construction in order to determine what the statutes before us are designed to do and not do. In performing this task we, of course, start by examining the words of the statutes. We then look to the statutes' clear purpose and intent. Specifically, we ask whether, without even mentioning the subject, the statutes invalidate a key provision of a consent decree to which the government is bound. In the process, we encounter a bureaucratic maze of alphabet agencies and examine how they can work together to carry out their shared and overlapping statutory duties. In the end, however, we arrive at a simple answer to our question. If Congress had intended to terminate the settlement agreement in whole or in part, it would have said so.

(67,782 posts)...there are different types or categories of people crossing the border "illegally".
Many of those affected recently are asylum seekers crossing the border at border crossings, which in a sense is legal. However, even those seeking asylum in accordance with the law have been separated from their children, and just the other day Sessions eliminated whole categories of conditions under which people could seek asylum.
This has NOT been going on since at least 2014, this is something new.

(15,805 posts)in horrible Romanian orphanages. There are many articles on the internet documenting what happened to those children. They were locked into individual cribs that looked like elevated cages with iron bars, or tied to their beds to keep them confined 24/7. They were heavily medicated to keep them quiet. They all suffered from delayed cognitive development, couldn't talk, and had to be hand fed and diapered because they never had any human contact to teach them anything. The forced confinement left them mentally and physically crippled for life.

(9,895 posts)Drugged people warehoused in barracks-like (or worse) systems? Can't happen here? Wrong...HAPPENED already.
What is the demographic calamity that is just really getting started? The aging and dying of the Baby Boomers. My parents are in their 70's and should they live into their mid-80's they will exhaust their retirement savings and be left with social security and Medicaid. They are part of the millions of Americans in similar or worse situations. My 70 year old mother in law is already nearly destitute, riddled with health problems and steaming towards a very uncertain future.
The government is going to have to do something about this issue, something that they do not want to but will be forced to do to keep the images of thousands of destitute, homeless seniors dying in mass public death camps...imagine Central Park in NYC or Grant's Park in Chicago filled with tents and thousands of dying people with no where else to go and nothing to survive on...it's coming.
So, what's the solution? Warehouses of people, drugged and sedated to make them manageable. Dying in horrifying conditions, but doing so out of the public eye and cameras. Because we can't see it won't make it any less horrifying or wrong.
Past is prologue indeed...
