Attorney: Strzok may not comply with House subpoena

(CNN)Embattled FBI agent Peter Strzok may not comply with a House Judiciary Committee subpoena requiring that he appear for a second round of questioning early next week, his lawyer told CNN's Chris Cuomo on Tuesday. The committee had issued the subpoena for Strzok earlier on Tuesday.

Asked on "Cuomo Prime Time" whether his client will comply with the subpoena, attorney Aitan Goelman said, "My client will testify soon, somewhere, sometime. We just got this subpoena today, so I don't know whether or not we are going to be testifying next Tuesday in front of these two particular House subcommittees."

Goelman, when asked by Cuomo why he did not respond with an "automatic yes," replied, "Because we have come to the conclusion, forced to come to the conclusion, that this is not a search for truth, it is a chance for Republican members of the House to preen and posture before their most radical, conspiracy-minded constituents."

"From our experience with the committee thus far, it is obvious that they don't want the truth. They don't want to hear what Pete has to say," he added.

2. The Republicans see this as an opportunity to showboat before the midterm elections

The Republicans want hours of free National News coverage so they can spew hate-filled narratives against the FBI and Federal Government in general.

Look for many subtle insinuations of President Obama targeting the Trump campaign for investigations. Once the seed is planted, Alex Jones and his merry band of conspiracy nuts will do the rest.

3. I hope Strzok follows through with thisrefusal. I think if he does, it will backfire on the GOP.

All they will have is the ability to charge and penalize him for contempt. Do they really want to have their GOP House vote to put him in jail for refusing to participate in a witch hunt/dog and pony show?

They’ll talk about how Strzok didn’t want to talk about his plans to protect Hillary and get into the weeds of his time on the Mueller team.

Remember, it’s his interview of Flynn where Flynn allegedly lied to the FBI. The FBI / DOJ has to walk a tight rope where he both complies with Congressional investigations and maintains his credibility for these prosecutions of Trump’s team.

They just want to play their same old Benghazi games, or Clinton email games, or gotcha whac-a-mole games. Is that what they really do and think about all day. Only pol junkies and a couple on CSPAN actually watch this stuff. With all the real problems out there. They might as well go play with themselves and give us our tax money back.
